“DISAPPOINTING- NOT WORTH THE MONEY”

My sister and I stayed here for a getaway weekend. We expected a lovely golf/ spa resort.

Upon our arrival, there was no one to greet us, help us with bags, etc. Most of the staff were barely out of their teens and their service was NOT what I would have expected for a "RESORT"

The room was small and the lighting was terrible- NO amenities existed (not even a booklet describing the resort's offerings). I have had better rooms and more amenities in Days Inns or Marriott Courtyards. The pool had no one helping with towels or chairs and it took forever to get a drink even though it was not busy.

At the end of our stay, as we were leaving, no one offered to help us with our golf clubs or bags (we would have tipped them). Others were LOUDLY complaining that they were not being helped either (even though there were staff that seemed to be assigned to the "valet" and bell captain stations....)

We would never stay there again.... too bad, it would have been a great location for us to do this more often.

I just returned from a stay at the resort. I travel a lot, so I feel that I can fairly rate this property. I would have to say that the property is mediocre. The room decorations were equivalent to a mid range national hotel chain, but they are charging premium dollars (total with tax $289/night). Our room was not "sumptuously appointed" as they state on their website. When we arrived there was not a single person outside to help us with our bags. At check out there were three people outside standing around and not moving fast enough to help us with our bags. We were only offered assistance after we had put all but one bag in the car. The bathroom was so dark. In the bathtub/shower area there is no light. The newspapers are not delivered to your door. You have to walk out all the way to the elevator area to get one. In fairness , the staff was courteous and helpful. The spa and the pool area was very nice. I would not stay there again for the price that we paid. Perhaps if we had paid around $150 per night I would have been fine with the experience, but it's not worth more than that.

Over the years, i've grown accustomed to non-special service, apathetic resort employees, and a general let down of going to a resort. The Lansdowne truly surpassed all expectations!

My wife and I spent a few days at the resort while the kids were at camp, and needless to say, we were delighted with the experience. We celebrated an early anniversary, and thanks to our travel agent who menitoned that, a nice bottle of Champagne was waiting for us, complete with ice in the bucket and a nice note from the Hotel manager.

The accomodations were fantastic. We had a king corner room, bedding was quite nice, and little touches made for a great room. We enjoyed the one-cup coffee maker, great water pressure, temperature easily controlled, furnishings were up to date, and very nice color schemes throughout.

When we arrived, the valet took our bags and golf clubs (this is a must when staying here), and I asked where the nearest golf store was since I forgot my golf shoes. The valet said the outlet mall up the road had a few selections, and he even offered to bring his shoes in that evening, if it would make it easier! Never have I seen such kindness and concern for guests. Thanks Keith!

Check in was quick and efficient, gave a map of the resort, and off we went. Since this is an older property, I expected the old "holiday inn" feel of refurbished areas, but to my surprise, everything looked brand new.

Golf is great at hotel, and on the lower course (Greg Norman Sharkbite
-9 hole course) we saw several deer and little deer wathcing us, and running across the fairways! Given the location next to the Potomac River, it was quite the event. They also have a Norman 18hole layout (tough) and a Robert Trent Jones II layout (easier, but not as scenic). Again, we were shocked at how helpful the golf staff was from bringing our clubs to our cart, starters were actually friendly and enjoyed having you out to play, and conditions were spectacular (even in the heat of July). My wife and I play at least once per week, and thoroughly enjoyed our outing, even playing 27 holes our last day there!

Pool area was fantastic (main pool with water slide, water works, great for little kids and a bit on the loud side; lower pool has waterfall that drowns out the noise of the kids above, and is quite relaxing), and they even have servers come around so you can order drinks/food, etc. They could not of been friendlier and more efficient. One thing we noticed is that most of the staff at the resort are young, and must live in the area...great service, great attitudes which helped make our visit very enjoyable. Only thing we didn't like is they had a pool (advertised as the quiet pool for adults), which was closed most of the time...They have to have life guards at each pool in order for guests to swim (insurance reasons i'm sure), so that was a little disappointing, but the head life guard made up for it in droves. After a very hot round golf, we arrived at 7:30pm (pool area closes at 8:00pm), and wanted to take a quick swim in the "quiet-no loud kids" pool. He came over and said he'd be glad to send a guard down so we could use the quiet pool, and within 20 seconds, we were able to cool off by ourselves for the next half hour. Truly, exceptional service from young lifeguards, showing their care and concern for guests.

We ate at Stonewalls Tavern (in the hotel, great atmosphere, flat screens around, and had pool tables, darts, and a cool table shuffleboard game that we were addicted to), and the Club49 or something like that in the golf area. Food was great, beer was cold, and we couldn't ask for a better experience!

We would absolutely stay here again, and hope to bring our 2 kids up this fall, as they would love the pool/water slide area and the short 9 hole golf course with tee box choices they can actually use!

“Nice spa weekend”

Lansdowne Resort

5 of 5 stars
Washington DC
Jun 22, 2008

I went on a spa weekend at Lansdowne Resort with 5 other girlfriends. It was wonderfully relaxing. We booked the Spa Deluxe weekend package which included a 2 night stay, 2 spa treatments (each 50 minutes), 2 breakfasts, and a wonderful brunch. They also gave us a $15 spa retail credit. It was a really nice time as we didn't have to worry about eating in the morning as the breakfasts were really nice, with a buffet plus grill where you can order waffles &/or omelettes made to order! We enjoyed the spa with facials, massages and body treatments. One of us even got a haircut and had a great experience.

We sat by the pools. They have 3 nice pools, one is adult only. Also, they have a nice fitness center and have some yoga/fitness classes. Only 50 minutes from DC, so far enough away to feel that you are away, yet not too far to drive.

We went to Leesburg for dinner and enjoyed Tuscarora Mill Restaurant. We also checked out the outlet shopping in Leesburg and enjoyed that quite a bit.

“Would never go back.”

I was there on business for two days. I was really annoyed that everytime they swipe your card, they preauthorize $50. For what??? And they don't even tell you they're doing it. Then it takes them 4 days to remove it. I mean, I went to the bar to order one appetizer, and they automatically charge me $50, then take literally 4 days to remove it? That's ridiculous. Same thing at the reservation desk. They'll swipe your credit card and preauthorize any amount they wish. Besides that, the food wasn't all that great. The rooms were clean, but reservation staff kept trying to blow me off when I called to inquire about why $50 charges were on my account still. Then of course no one in accounting would returm my calls! Unsatisfactory.
