“Very nice hotel, direct on the beach & friendly staff”

Sol Cala Blanca

Apr 6, 2008

We stayed there for 4 nights. The room was nice and clean with scenic sea views. Room was a Non-Smoking-Room. Parking was only Euro 5. The breakfast buffet was the best we ever had. We had booked directly with SolMelia, however, most of the other guest (mostly elderly folks from UK) booked through travel operators. For the price we paid, we would go back anytime.

“Non-smokers beware!!!”

We stayed at the Sol Cala Blanca just before Easter. In our booking we had asked for a non-smoking room, only to be told at reception that the hotel did not have them. On opening the bedroom door, the room stank of stale cigarette smoke. We tried opening the patio doors to get rid of the smell only for more smoke to be drawn into the room from the service ducts. Despite purchasing an air freshener from the shop, we had the problem all week.

Downstairs in the Bar, again you could not see for the fog, only a small area next to the front door/reception had been set aside for non-smokers.

We found a Bar in the entertainment room that was for non-smokers only for a sign saying that it only opened from 9pm.

We ended up going out every evening to get some fresh air, so missed the entertainment.

The bedrooms are large, though we had a broken sink and the sun lounger was also broken, this was replaced.

Now for the good bits, The food in the restaurant was good. We stayed half board, the choice at both breakfast and dinner was great. There was two theme dinners whilst we stayed,(chinese and mexican).

The staff in the hotel are wonderful and despite the smoke problem, the hotel and bedrooms were kept spotless.

As other people have commented, the rooms at the back of the hotel overlooking the shops have the sun from about mid morning onwards. But the best views are from the rooms overlooking the sea.

We have stayed at other Solmelia hotels in Spain, which are smoke free, or have had special rooms built for smokers, as non-smokers we both found that this hotel was unbearable. We will not be going back in a hurry.

“Sol Cala Blanca gets Family Vote”

Sol Cala Blanca

This was our fifth visit to Sol Cala Blanca, Majorca - this time we took along our three grown up children 21, 23, 29 and their partners.
As well as celebrating Dads' birthday we all needed some serious chill out time. We were not disappoined.
We had rooms on the 3rd floor, all the rooms were at the front of the Hotel as we requested so to make the best of the evening sunshine, allowing for pre dinner gatherings/drinks on the balcony.
Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.
We stayed Bed, Breakfast and evening meal, excellent value for six very hungry young adults, yes ok, mum and dad too.
Two of our party are vegetarians and always managed to find plenty to choose from on the menu.
All the staff were helpful, friendly and cheerful we enjoyed many a laugh/joke with them.
We were blessed with incredibly great weather, the young ones staked out on the beautiful white sandy beach just outside the hotel sunbaking everyday apart from one day spent visiting Soller/Porto Soller.
Although we had hired a car everyone wanted to experience the train/tram journey to Soller through the mountains. We caught a local bus to Palma, train to Soller, then tram to Porto Soller. The contrast in landscape from Palma through the countryside and up through the mountains is spectacular especially as the sun continued to shine. We enjoyed a nice cool beer soaking up the sun and atmosphere of the lively little square in Soller whilst waiting for the next tram down to the Port. We had the added bonus of a beautiful sunset on our return journey back to Palma that evening.
The only two GRUMBLES we have of the Hotel:
1. The breakfast orange juice is NOT fresh. Very disappointing on an island that grows oranges/lemons. Please get fresh juice on the menu! Sol Cala Blanca please take note!
2. Smoking - it is allowed !!! So relaxing in the lounge area or enjoying the entertainment was not an option for us. Without suffering the consequences of smoke!
The only problem Mum and Dad may have now is trying to return on our own again - we now have six enthusiastic converts!

“Excellent position & very comfortable”

Spent 4 nights here and were impressed with the excellent, spacious room, position of the hotel and it's cleanliness.
Breakfast was very poor, even by Spanish standards, and as this was the only meal we took in the hotel, cannot comment further on the food.
Apart from the bedroom, the hotel is probably more 3-star than 4-star, but we enjoyed good service and would recomend this hotel.

“Relaxing stay”

We booked this hotel as a part of our two weeks Spain holiday.
This hotel has mixed british and spanish interior and furniture. A bit old style hotel facilities but room was nice, clean and comfy. Room had SAT-TV, safe, basic amenities and airconditioning (options for ceiling fan and AC-device).
Reception staff were very polite and all the other staff members on pool/ lounge bar were friendly. Hotel has entertaintment at everyday at daytime for kids and in evenings shows each night. Breakfast was ok. It was not the best one we had comparing to other hotels in Spain we stayed but nothing to complain about it.

Pros:
+ Hotel service was good.
+ Clean room, comfortable beds, relaxing chairs in balcony.
+ Hotel gave us relaxing vacation and stay.
+ Hotel staff including cleaners greeted us everytime.
+ We had great sleep in our room, soundproof in our room was ok.
Cons:
- Breakfast room was noisy.
- Palma Nova and Magaluf have hundreds of pizzerias around. It was hard to find good restaurant as we didn´t try hotels dinner.
