“Construction a nightmare”

Hampton Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront North

1 of 5 stars
west virginia
Apr 22, 2008

I just came home from a short vacation in Virginia Beach. The hotel was a big nightmare. We were aware there were renovations being done, but not told all. The lobby and resturant were not close to being finished. The room we had only had one chair in it. Was told the rooms were completely finished. At 7:45 this morning we were woken up to staple machine being used on our floor. Even one of the managers told me he could hear it on the first floor. The parking lot was a nightmare. There were two large cranes in this small lot and storeage bins and dumpsters. We got charged for parking our car and was afraid we were going to get it damaged by equipment on the lot. I do not think it was fair to charge the high price for each night and have to dodge all the construction. Also they tried to charge us more for the last two nights than what they were suppose to. Had to tell them to correct the error. Please if any one is doing construction and does not have enought sense to close until it is completed, please do not stay there. It was not a pleasant experience. Thank you Roger Dilley

“Good value for the money”

We just got back from a long weekend at this hotel. I was really pleased with how nice the hotel was for the money. There were some problems, but overall thought it was just fine. All the rooms look out over the beach and the location can't be beat- right in the heart of the resort area. We didn't drive our car the entire time we were there. The room was clean and well-maintained. It wasn't fancy but it worked just fine. I thought the bed was pretty uncomfortable though. I loved the balcony. We didn't use the pool but we used room service 3 times and were fairly happy with the service. On Monday morning renovations started in the building. If we hadn't already been awake at 9:00 AM I would have been really annoyed. We brought our dog with us but were disappointed to learn that they're banning dogs as of December 1, 2007. So we probably won't be back.

Pros:
Hotel is parallel to the boardwalk and beach. Room was comfortable and clean with a private bacony facing the beach. Microwave and frig in room. Staff was helpful. The restaurant, Timbuktu has good food and live entertainment from thursday - sunday. Staff there was excellent.
Indoor pool open 24hrs. Staff cleans it every morning.

Cons:
no air conditioning in elevator or corridors.

My husband, 8 year old daughter, and I checked into this Days Inn on August 5th, and we checked out on August 10th. Our stay was quiet enjoyable. Check in is not until 3pm, but we arrived early and was able to check into our room at a little after 1pm. All of the staff was nice to us. Like the previous poster stated the halls were very warm, and the wait for the elevator was long. These problems did not bother me much. Our room was very cool, so that is all that mattered. Our room was just what we needed for a week of vacation. Very clean room, except the balcony doors could of used some cleaning. Myself when I'm on vacation I always use the do not disturb sign on the door. I'm not comfortable with strangers in my hotel room when I'm not around. So I done all cleaning myself. Which was very minor because we are pretty neat people for the most part. My daughter used the pool one time while we were there. My husband said there was a lot of sand in the pool. I myself was never in the pool area. On the first night of our arrival a huge thunderstorm occured, and our electric to the room came on, and off about 4 times. It was never out longer then 5 seconds at a time. The only thing I wish this hotel had is a full head shower to rinse off after coming back from the beach. They only have a foot shower. I heard numerous people saying they were going to rinse off in the pool before heading back to there room. This I'm sure is the reason for all the sand in the pool. Also during our stay my husband was talking to a maintence man and he said as of Jan 1st 2008 this Days Inn will become a Hampton Inn. I would definately stay at this hotel again.

My family and i stayed here a couple of years ago and it was a nice looking hotel, well not anymore. The pool was dirty at the bottom and filled with sand the bathroom in the pool area was dirty and smelled bad, the elevator was very slow with no air conditioning, in the stairwell the third floor and up felt like and oven, the sliding door in the hotel room was filthy, the maids act like they don't care and clean the room any kind of way by throwing the sheets together without fixing them our floor was not vacum cleaned during our stay and on top of that the power went out on the second night of stay and the people at the front desk didn't seem to care too much i will never stay at this hotel again
