We chose the Sheraton Maui because our friend had recommended this hotel over the Westin. We were using our SPG points to stay the whole time. As soon as we got there, we politely asked for an upgrade and they placed us into Building 6, room 6308. Our bellman helped us get to the parking lot and helped us bring all our luggage to our room. Not only that, he gave us some great advice on dining and adventures. I thought he was an excellent bellman.
Our room was amazing!! It was a dream come true and if you are on your honeymoon, definetly suggest building 6. We got to see the cliff dive ceremony from our balcony and we got to see all the snorkelers in Black Rock. We had a large Kind size bedroom, with a large shower tub, separate toilet room, and a granite top sink. We had a LCD TV which was a great bonus. If you are travelling with small children, I would recommend the other buildings in the main area, not building 5 or 6. We had to take 2 elevators which we did not mind because we got to see our cute stray cats that said hello to us. By the way, if you are there, please take care of these sweet kitties with some water and food. Not only us, other guests were bringing them water as well. They are very friendly!!
The beach was amazing right in front of the hotel. Other beaches were rocky, however, this was the best beach. Snorkeling at Black rock was the best place. We went on the Teralini throught the Sheraton, which stopped at 2 places to snorkel, however, there were more fish at Black rock. We saw turtles hanging out twice. My husband followed the turle for about 10 minutes and he didnt seem to mind. The teralani cataraman was ok, but owuldnt recommend it. The BBQ lunch was very stingy and not generous at all. The hamburger meat was thinner that a MacDonalds cheeseburger. The crew was friendly. They stopped to see Dolphins and turltes on the way. But for $119 per person, I would not recommend it. Black rock was the best place to snorkel.
We ate at several places, however for breakfast, we recommend the Black rock grill for their breakfast buffet. It is priicey at 25 per person, however, they have a very big selection. Food is very pricey in general in Maui. We went to Roy's for dinner one night and even though it was expensive, we highly recommend it. The service and food was excellent. WE also enjoyed the Aloha Mixed Plate. Very cheap and good! However, we dont recommend Kimo's, China Boat, and Giovanni's.
As far as the road to hana, we did not attempt. We were terrified with the drive up to Julia's banana bread (recommended by the Maui Revealed). The bread was great, but we did not expect anything like that. Do not attempt with kids!! It was a one way road, off a cliff, with no gaurd rails!! We stopped to see the Olivine pools and the blowhole. Great sights to see!
Overall, we recommend this hotel to everyone. The Westin was boring and average, Everything was great, except all the restaurants in the hotel closed early. Also, the maids were extrememly rude. And lastly, the SPG sales people were kind of annoying. They called us 3 times in the room and twice on the cell phone! We just ignored them. Don't fall for the gift thing....its not work postcards for a 20 minute speech. Definetly stop at Costco's and get drinks before going to the hotel. Everything is very pricey!! Have a great stay!
