We rented our studio gardenview room from the owner and saved a lot of money. The setting is just gorgeous and the atmosphere is wonderful with the plumeria trees growing all around. They have barbque grills for you to use if you prefer to cook out. The aroma from the cooking makes your mouth water and almost makes you want to make quick friends with the cook so you can taste his creation. Anyway, we didn't do that although it was tempting. We enjoyed the great breakfast at the Gazebo and when i returned this past year to Maui, we drove down twice to the Gazebo for the great macadamia nut pancakes, even though we didn't stay here again. I still like the location of this property, it really seems like paradise here without all the big high rises. The room was fully furnished, and the staff was very friendly. The lack of an air conditioner was not as inconvenient this time of year, but i imagine in the heart of the summer months it might get quite stuffy. You can hear the noise out in the parking lot and then the early risers walking and talking in the courtyard. The only disappointment was the the bed. The mattress was not very comfortable and by the fourth night i started dreading to lay down to sleep and i hope by now they have new mattresses. This is the only complaint I have of this property. I was reading that they have gone through renovations, so i hope this means all the units and new beds. I would love to stay here again if that is the case.

This is a great property for families. It is quiet, safe, kid friendly, small, and clean. It is a great place to hang out. We loved the community barbecues.

“1 minute to beach, free high-speed & HD tvs”

We were here with our 5 month-old daughter for a week in December. We thought it might not be as nice as its website but we were wrong: the property was beautiful with lots of lawn space to play, the room was spacious and clean with a fully stocked kitchen, and Napili Bay was a stellar spot to play in the surf and snorkel.

We will be back next year, but we will book an oceanview room to avoid parking lot noise from the gardenview rooms. Kate from the concierge was especially helpful.

We enjoyed the high speed internet (ethernet cable provided) and HD tv, although they do not subscribe to HD content. There is also a supplied VGA cable so if you bring a laptop you can connect directly.

“Good alternative to mega-high-rise bustle & cost”

Outrigger Napili Shores

Located about a 20-minute drive northwest of the town of Lahaina, Napili Shores is an excellent choice if you prefer something a little more laid-back than the fancy bustling high-rise resorts that are proliferating north of Lahaina. The Shores is an older condo development, very well kept up, that offers the most significant amenities without layers of extras, and at a more reasonable cost. We observed that it attracts a horde of repeat guests and that many of the condo owners themselves spend a good part of the year in residence.

The units are a mix of one-bedroom and studios with balconies, arranged in two-story buildings that mostly face an immaculately maintained central courtyard (see picture). The buildings closest to the ocean are canted to provide ocean views. The courtyard has two pools and a Jacuzzi, plus a fish pond and very attractive landscaping. At the seaside end of the courtyard the beachfront is rocky, but a short connecting path leads to a nice sandy beach immediately adjacent.

There is an ocean-front gazebo restaurant that serves breakfast & lunch (with a line forming each morning for 7:00AM breakfast!) and a full restaurant-bar at the street end that is open for lunch & dinner (see pictures). Food was quite good and prices reasonable by Hawaii standards. Other amenities include an on-site Expedia agent for booking activities and inexpensive ($1 per boarding) public bus service down to “high-rise row” and Lahaina town. There is a coin laundry and a small ‘necessities shop’. All rooms have phones with free local calling and modem jack, but only some units have broadband internet (apparently an option provided by some unit owners).

Our two-week stay was very enjoyable, with only one sour note, a noise problem that causes us to downgrade the overall rating one notch. The units are not air-conditioned and must be kept open on both ends for the pleasant Hawaii breezes. Unfortunately, the rectangular box construction amplifies external noise, most annoyingly the nighttime parking lot comings & goings. Restaurant/bar patrons and condo guests subjected us to a chorus of chatter, banging car doors and beeping alarm-set horns that seemed to be right in the bedroom with us. Recommendation: Get a unit near the beach end and well away from the street-side restaurant area.
