“Good service goes a long way”

La Luna Inn

As former locals who lived 2 blocks away and also right off Lombard, we knew what to expect as far as the noise. But with a room facing the back, a comfortable king bed, and the hum of the powerful fan we slept through each night without any trouble.

The location is terrific.

Foodies/bar hoppers: tons of fantastic bars and restaurants all within walking distance.

Tourists: it's as close as you can get to the Golden Gate bridge, Palace of Fine Arts, and the Presidio.

Shoppers: Chestnut Street and Union (up the hill a couple of blocks) have some pretty nice shops.

Parents: this is a very safe neighborhood. My fiance and I were teased relentlessly by co-workers for living here because it's so clean, nice, and gentrified.

Business folks: the 30 express is 3 blocks away and drops you downtown in about 20 minutes.

Runners: this is world-class running territory...Lyon Street Steps, Ft. Point, GG Bridge, Presidio, and some serious butt-kicking hills.

The room was spare, but very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is just something to nibble on while you walk to a much better breakfast place on Chestnut. The internet is very clunky. But the service was far above average.

Proprietors of other hotels, are you listening? Today's lesson: See how this place doesn't hit the mark every time, but because its front desk staff are warm, thoughtful, and competent, travelers are willing to put up with all sorts of shortcomings?

I'd stay here again. Made me want to move back.

“Nice and pretty, but noisy”

La Luna Inn

We stayed there for our honeymoon, and had a room on the upper floor.

Here are the plusses:
- Very nice decorating, modern and clean.
- Close to the Golden Gate Bridge and Chesnut St. where there are some nice restaurants.
- Not very expansive.
- Free breakfast.
- Big shower.

Here are the downers:
- Very noisy because your door opens to Lombard St. which is a big avenue.
- Breakfast was a bit cheap, we had to lunch early because it was filling enough.
- Small bathroom.

It was an overall good experience and we would certainly return.

“Did the Job!”

La Luna Inn

Jun 22, 2008

We were a little unsure before heading to the hotel but when we arrived we were greeted with some very friendly and helpfull reception staff. The room was rather basic but very tidy and reasonably comfortable. If you are looking for basic and in a good location this place works. In good walking distance to the Golden gate bridge and the Marina. Highly recomended....

“It takes great people to run a great place, and La Luna has more than both”

La Luna Inn

Jun 20, 2008

There's so much to say about staying in a great place in a great location that has GREAT customer service, especially these days (sheesh). Our stay was excellent from the get-go. Easy to find with free parking, we were warmly received when we went to check-in (and this was no fake I-gotta-smile-cause-I'm-on-camera B.S., the front desk reception was very genuine and had a great feeling about them). We arrived a bit early and the rooms were still being cleaned (If I remember correctly checkout is around noon and checkin about 3), but the staff went out of their way to get a room ready for us, which was totally unexpected and really appreciated (this is something that shouldn't be abused by guest's though; checkin IS at 3). We had a great feeling from the start. The gentleman who checked us in was Tim. TIM IS AWSOME!!!! He's this absolutely wonderful teddybear of a character with a face like a cherub. Completely loveable. He made you feel right and home and welcome (as in "welcome back, it's great to see you again!!!" kind of welcome.), and we just felt so welcomed and had such a wonderful impression immediately.
Our room was on the front of the hotel, and as the reviews say Lombard street can get noisy but we didn't mind; it really depends on how heavy of a sleeper you are. And please keep in mind that the staff doesn't control traffic-I saw another guest literally yelling at one of the staff because of the noise and DEMANDING that he be placed in a different room on a night that the hotel was sold out!! If you can try to get a room on the back side of the hotel get one, but don't be suprised if you cant. They seem to be popular with some people and go fast.
Breakfast is small-light pastries, bread and juices. While delicious it is small, but we didn't stay at the hotel to eat. When you check in you are told that a "LIGHT breakfast will be served", so don;t expect a banquet.
The location is PRIME. The hotel is settelled in the northern part of SF not too far from the Golden Gate, and there are a bunch of great diners, cafes, pizzarias and shgops all within great walking distance. The bus 30 is the way to get around. We had never been to SanFrancisco, and Tim helped us out sooo much with getting around. The rest of the staff did as well. They went above and beyond tohelp out ourselves and the rest of the guest's in the hotel. Even people who would come i with questions that weren;t staying at the hotel!!!!
Our stay was wonderful. The rooms are immaculate and the service was unmatched. It's a blessing that this hotel is full of helpful happy people and is also a shame that these people aren;t all over the place: guest's and customer service reps could really learn a good lesson from the staff at La Luna. I almost felt sad leaving, I had become so accostomed to to seeing the same great people everyday. I would highly reccomend La Luna for people who are looking for simplicity and friendlycaring staff.

Rooms: Clean, big, comfy and great; can be loud at times
Location: Awsome, everything you need or ways to get where you need to go with walking distance
Breakfast: Small but a great jumpstart for your day
Service: The Staff is like nothing i've seen. They all remember who you are and always greet you like a regular.

“The best kept secret in S.F.”

La Luna Inn

Jun 1, 2008

i found this place by accident on the Internet, and after having some trouble making reservations online i decided to call the hotel directly (which i recommend to everyone to do).
the man who answered the phone, (Tim i think), was so charming, pleasant, and knowledgeable about S.F. i decided to stay an extra day to see all the things he told me about.
The hotel is very, very nice and was so clean that it made me want to take one of the cleaning ladies home with me. the hotel also is near so many restaurants and shops that you end up not wanting to go anywhere else in the city. .(wonderfully located)
make sure that when you are getting checked in to ask about the #30 BUS, which goes everywhere from Fisherman's wharf , North Beach, China Town, to Union Square.
all in all, a wonderful Inn, Amazing staff, and the location is so perfect to do everything in the city, that they couldn't have planned it better if they tried.
I'm huge on customer service and this place has the most wonderful people working there that i can't say enough about them, especially Tim, who made me feel like i was family not a guest in a hotel.
Excellent doesn't begin to describe this Inn, on a scale of 1-10 the La Luna Inn is a 11+
