“Weird Hotel”

Hyatt Regency Boston

May 12, 2008

Staff were nice enough, rooms were normal, but nothing special. European feel to the hotel. Very strange hotel. Seemed that no other guests were there until 2:30am when were were awoken by our neighbors "bedroom" activities. Common areas were empty. Had a hard time finding the check-in desk, the pool, the door to the outside, the door to get back into the hotel. i guess the hotel needs more signs. There are these long weird corridors that you need to walk down to go anywhere. Hallways seem to go on forever and then have stairs every now and then with no ramps. Not recommended for people who have strollers, people who cannot walk far or climb stairs or who are in wheelchairs. Also was a very powerful aroma in the lobby areas (not in the rooms though) so not advised for people who are sentitive to perfumes. Rooms were acceptable but definitely not what the hotel website describes. Beds are nothing special, just a feather mattress pad over a plain old mattress. They look comfy but feel mediocre. Our 6th floor city view room was an up-close view of another building's roof "junk". Kept the drapes closed. Rust around tub drain and rust stains in the grout. Just rust, but still made me queasy when I had to bathe my toddler. Hair was stuck to the paint on the ceiling in the bathroom. Nice to have robes in the room though and the soaps were nice. Pool liner also seemed to be rust-stained. No hot tub. Overall, I was mostly horrified by the X-rated noises from the next-door room. I was with my mother and toddler for a Mother's Day weekend! This hotel is not as close to the attractions as others. We found one closer and quieter and left after one night.

“Perfect Location, Great Hotel”

Hyatt Regency Boston

I was visiting a friend in Boston and she recommended the Hyatt Regency Dowtown. It ended up being a perfect choice. Close to so many of the things I wanted to see and do. I was walking distance from Faneuil Hall, Charlestown, the North End, Boston Commons and so much more. We went out to eat at a couple great restaurants that were just a few minutes away. We even ended up seeing a show at the Opera House, just steps outside the front door of the Hyatt.

Overall, the service was excellent, location...perfect and who can deny the luxury of that magnificent bed. And I can't forget to mention the Eucalyptus Steam room that was a nice treat after a long day of exploring. I highly recommend this hotel.

“Good Hotel”

Hyatt Regency Boston

3 of 5 stars

This hotel is not great, but good. I took the advice of another reviewer and asked for a quiet room with a view. We were given a room on the 20th floor. The room was very clean with a very comfortable king size bed. The bedding included a feather bed and down comforter.

The hotel staff was somewhat hit or miss. They would say hello if you acknowledged them first. The exception to this were the doormen. They were excellent and more than willing to give directions or dinning advice. One glitch was the housekeeping staff. One morning, I was having coffee in the room when a maid just walked in. I did not have the do not disturb sign out, but usally they knock before entering. Another afternoon I had to call three times to find out when our room was going to be made up. No one seemed to know what the other was doing?

The location of the hotel was very good close to the commons and the Freedom trail. We did not eat at the hotel, but found a Dunkin Donught for AM coffe and quite a few small restaurants with in a short distance of the Hotel. The Beantown Pub on Tremont St. stands out as a very good place for a drink and a sandwhich. It overlooks the burying ground where Paul Revere is buried.

I did not notice anything out of the ordinary as far as walking the streeets around the hotel. The mix was one that you would find in most large cities. I did not feel threatened at any time. There was a large police presence and I did not notice any problems. If we would return to Boston, I would consider staying at the Hyatt again.

“It's OK”

Hyatt Regency Boston

If you have money to burn the hotel is great but in my opinion not worth the price. The price was ok about $215 a night. Valet was EXPENSIVE I think it was $60 a day. Cabs are easy to access. If you stay here you will have to take a cab for most of the attractions I think it was about an average of $6.00 to every place we went.

It’s a dingy location and the lobby is on the 3rd floor…which is strange to me. Not impressed with the bathroom at all… not exactly a 4 star bathroom. They had some kind of oil potpourri that made me and my boyfriend pretty nauseas. You can’t use the fridge because it is full of things you can purchase. Be careful do not touch anything in it unless you plan to buy it. The fridge has sensors in it. Also you will be charged a fee if you choose to store food in it.

Breakfast is also pretty pricey. Overall a nice breakfast selection except for the stale bacon. We did not venture into the lounge but it seemed nice. It smelled like fish in the lobby at several points it might have been something being cooked in the restaurant /lounge.

My major warning DO NOT use the map they give you at the hotel. It’s horrible. Example- The Marker #11 on the map says Christian Science Center, Museum of Fine Arts etc. The streets the marker is in between on the map are not the streets where the Museum of Fine Arts is located. If you want to find your way around Boston invest the $8 -$10 on a tourist guide.

I highly recommend the North End for dining. For seafood try the Chart House and McCormicks and Schmicks SO GOOD! Don’t go to Cheers in Quincy square the food, the food made us sick to our stomachs.

Go to the Aquarium it was fun.

“Great Hotel”

Hyatt Regency Boston

4 of 5 stars
Kansas City
Apr 6, 2008

The downtown Hyatt was located great in the center of downtown Boston. We walked everywhere, never taking the subway and only taking a taxi to and from the airport. The hotel was very clean, they had doorman at all hours of the day. The staff was very courteous and the concierge gave excellent restaurant recommendations. I would recommend seeing a Celtics game, Fenway Park, and eating at the Oyster House. Overall the hotel was great, we couldn't have asked for a better location and cleaner hotel.
