We just returned from five nights at the Fairmont Copley Plaza. The location is just wonderful - by Trinity Church, the Boston Public, Library, Fenway Park, the original Cheers bar, and the shopping conencted by the Prudential skywalk. There is something for everyone. The hotel lobby is amazing - opulent and untouched since 1912 construction according to hotel staff.
The first room was a little dated but in a charming way - gorgeous old wallpaper. However, our first room had a dreadful smell (chemical or plastic smell), so we asked to be moved the next morning, and we were taken care of. The second room was bigger, and had been updated with newer draperies and bedspreads and travertine in the bathroom. One small drawback: There are no coffee facilities in the rooms. As another reviewer noted, the tvs are old with few stations if that matters to you.
The food at the hotel was amazing. We had lunch and dinner at the Oak Room - it is quite expensive but excellent food and service. The servings are huge - do not believe them when they say you need to order extra vegetables! We couldnt get through our meals. The desserts were to die for! We also ate room service which was also excellent, and several catered events at the hotel which were also amazing. There are fewer options for vegetarians, but if you eat seafood or steak, you'll be in heaven. Just bring a big appetite and credit limit.
I was here for a conference and it was an excellent venue for our group. I would return here for a romantic trip, a girlfriend trip, or even with my kids (who would love the cute lab in the lobby!)
