“favorite place to stay in San Diego”

Crystal Pier Hotel & Cottages

Jul 1, 2008

Just wanted to say how much we love staying at these great cottages. I am born & raised in San Diego & this is my favorite place to stay for a local getaway. We have been going there at least once a year for the past 10 years or so & have always had an excellent time.

I have read some reviews that talk about unfriendly staff, but we have never encountered anything like that as everyone has been very helpful & friendly.

We have stayed in some of the newer, larger cottages towards the end of the pier & also the older, but totally refurbished other cottages & they are all wonderful. The newer ones are a little more expensive, but have a little more privacy on your balcony area--except for the last 1 on each side of the pier--as those don't have the privacy the other "newer" cottages as you can see onto the balcony if you are standing on the pier.

We pack our groceries & head down there & park our car & don't have to drive anywhere. They have full kitchens & they will bring you a bbq to your balcony to keep for your stay, if you ask. Talk about a romantic, candlelight dinner---doesn't get much better than that. There are lots of close places to walk to as well, if you don't want to cook.

The cottages are spotlessly clean & all have a seperate bedroom area & large balcony with table/chairs & 2 lounge chairs.

You won't want to leave :)

We stayed on Crystal Pier the end of April for 3 nights. It was awesome from the moment we arrived. Growing up in San Diego and remembering the Pier, I was cautious, but pleasently surprised. It is very self contained and you can even borrow a BBQ for cooking out. My husband has motion sickness, so we stayed in the unit above the offices. No problem for him and great view for us. The property is close to whatever you want to do. We walked, rented bike and rode the boardwalk. There is great restaurants in the area as well. Really no need for a rental car if you just want to hang out and enjoy Pacific Beach. It was very much a great stay and I was recommend highly.

We were very lucky to have Suite B, which is at the tip of the pier with unblocked views of the Pacific. Unparalled sunrises and sunsets were ours each of our 3 days. We particularly enjoyed watching the surfers from a birds eye view. We made use of our kitchenette, bringing in groceries from the Voss Supermarket right on Garnet St.We had no problems with noise or the visitors who are allowed on the pier during the day. I imagine the atmosphere is different in full summertime but our time here in April was perfect. We were 10-13 minutes to Old Town , the airport and La Jolla. Staff (and pier dogs!) is friendly but you are on your own before 8 AM and after 8 PM.

“Stay on the Pier”

Crystal Pier Hotel & Cottages

We heard it was very hard to get a room at this hotel, but we tried nevertheless - and got lucky. Very lucky in fact - when we showed up at the property, we got an upgrade from a one bedroom suite to a two bedroom cottage. We stayed for two nights and it was absolutely terrific, a spotless cottage with a great sunset from the huge terrace, cosy bedrooms, each with a bathroom, a living with kitchen corner and a gentle rocking at night from the waves hitting the wooden pier. It was the highlight of our trip in CA and we'll definitely try to stay here again when we return to San Diego.

“Love It!!!”

Crystal Pier Hotel & Cottages

I've stayed at Crystal Pier a couple of times over the years. I lived in Pacific Beach (1978-1985) and always admired the cottages. I moved back east; when I decided to vacation in San Diego in 1991; I stayed at Crystal Pier. I vacationed in San Diego again in 1995 and 2000 staying at Crystal Pier each visit. I've always stayed in the lettered cottages and each visit I stayed a week. It was an absolute dream each stay. There is nothing more soothing or relaxing than sleeping over the Ocean; no matter what your day was like, you will wake up VERY well rested. When I vacation in San Diego again (hopefully soon) I will be staying at Crystal Pier. Love it!!!! NOTE: I had to check a year of stay for this to go through, which is why I listed the times of my stays.
