“Surpassed my expectations”

When I could not get into my usual hotel, I booked the Courtyard Marriott. I booked thru their own website and the rate was cheaper than all the on line travel websites.
Since I grew up not far from this hotel, I knew what to expect as far as location. It is not a far drive to anything in San Diego if you know where you are headed.
Originally, I was given a ground floor room which shared a wall with the ice machine. Big mistake! I am a light sleeper and the noisy machine kept me awake all night. To my surprise and delight, the front desk staff was very understanding and were able to move me to a much quieter 3rd floor room. Their treatment proved to be indicative of my entire 8 day experience. Everyone was very helpful and accomodating. I complimented the manager on her well trained and friendly staff.
This does seem to be a hotel for visiting high school sports teams. There were at least 3 large teams there during my stay, however they were very well behaved and supervised.
I would recommend this hotel to all travelers. It was a pleasant stay.

Booked this property because it was new, had good reviews on TripAdvisor, a decent location, and a reasonable price. Specifically requested a top-floor, courtyard-facing room in a quiet location more than two months in advance. Arrived promptly at check-in time to find there were only two top-floor rooms available - one faced the freeway, the other had been smoked in – and this is a 100% non-smoking hotel. Assured that it was a quiet location, we settled for a first floor room at the end of the hall. It turned out to be next to a stairwell that exited to the pool, and we were treated to dozens (hundreds?) of young people thundering up and down the stairs and slamming doors until at least one a.m. (Apparently there were several busloads of high school band members staying that weekend!) The folks above us seemed to be moving furniture and dropping barbells on the floor until the wee hours, as well. The next morning at breakfast, our server noticed that we were not too happy with our stay thus far, and tried her best to do get management to comp our breakfast, they WOULD NOT. She went above and beyond and got our breakfast taken care of through other means: this was the one bright spot in an otherwise miserable experience. We promptly packed our bags and checked into another hotel.

NEVER AGAIN!

“Great Hotel”

What a great hotel! The rooms were nicely decorated and the beds very comfortable. Room service was quick and the food was good and reasonably priced. Pool and hot tub were oversized and the outdoor sitting area was large and attractive. Staff was friendly and helpful. Happy hour between 4 - 6 offered 1/2 price appetizers, $3 beers and $4.50 cocktails.

The hotel is located in an area of office parks. But the location is conveniently located north of SD between I-805 and Rt 163. It was 10 minutes to La Jolla and 10 minutes to Sea World.

I'd definitely stay there again.

“A Good Clean Hotel But Not Where You Want To Be For A Sightseeing Trip”

Courtyard San Diego Central

Nov 28, 2006
6/9 found this review helpful

We stayed here for a week over Thanksgiving while we were visiting our son who has a small apartment nearby. It was the cleanest property I've ever visited. The staff was cheerful and helpful. The hotel is so well-maintained that I asked if it was new-it's been open four years. We had a good rate ($135) because we were there for a week.

As other reviewers have noted, this hotel is in the middle of a large area of office buildings and very obviously caters to business people during the week and special events (we saw people there for a soccer tournament) over the weekend. There is absolutely nothing nearby within walking or easy driving distance in the way of restaurants, retail, nightlife, ect. Not the hotel's fault, of course, but something you need to know before booking. So unless you're there for nearby family or business, you'll want to stay somewhere else. It's just not where you want to be for sightseeing or sports in San Diego.

“Great Place to Stay”

My family and I just returned from San Diego and we had a wonderful stay at the Courtyard San Diego Central. Our room was very clean, spacious, comfortable beds, and very good customer service. Our room came with a complimentary breakfast buffet (the Stay for Breakfast Promotion) which was also very good.

I would recommend this hotel to families. Not too many attractions close by, but located in a nice area.....business district with lots of restaurants around. Also close to the freeway.
