“Beware added costs, no free breakfast, tight parking”

Doubletree Club Hotel San Diego

3 of 5 stars
Las Vegas
Jul 11, 2008

The Hotwire quote listed taxes, but failed to list the $14 parking fee. Also, we were surprised when presented with a nearly $30 bill for breakfast for two. No prices posted, no evidence it was other than complimentary. The food was ho-hum quality and HIGHLY overpriced, and, again, appeared to be a complimentary buffet. NOT. The pool bottom was grimy; glass surfaces in the room not clean, and noise from the freeway. It was a nice room in a convenient location. Parking garage tight spacing with exposed metal girders. Expect to pay for EVERYTHING extra.

    • Liked — convenient location; good value at discount, with exceptions
    • Disliked — freeway noise, charges for all extras

“Very Nice! But under construction.”

Doubletree Club Hotel San Diego

Jun 8, 2008

Pros: Very modern decor, clean, friendly staff, nice pool.

Cons: Under construction. They should of mentioned that on their site and when contacted. No free internet service ($10 a day fee your lap or their wireless keyboard in room)

First off let me state that we have stayed in LOTS of the hotels in hotel circle area in the past 13 years. So I have a good pool to compare from.

We booked ours through Get Away Today Vacations. (highly recommend it too)

I was a bit worried reading the reviews. But to our wonderful surprise our room was brand new!

Check in was seamless thanks to GATV.

At the front desk they told us that there was a $7 a day parking charge...which I expected $14 from reading the reviews. However I reminded them that I booked with GATV and the lady gave us a free parking pass.

Upon entering the lobby was above average for Hotel Circle. Nice, clean and modern.

We were assigned a room on the third floor. (This is an 8 story building and from what I understand only levels 8 and 3 were open. The rest were still under construction.)

We didnt notice the construction too much. Our room was pretty quite 99% of the time. However we didn't sleep in past 8am and we were gone most of the time between 10am till around 4pm.

One guest that we talked to said her room was a very noisy during the day when she tried to put her daughter down for a nap. She too wish that they would of disclosed the construction when booking.

Room was clean, we had a suite that slept 2 adults and 4 kids 13 yrs and under. The beds and pillows and linens were THE BEST! EXTREMELY Comfortable and clean. The carpet was new which is always a plus in any hotel. Missing the mini fridge they use to have. Flat screen tv, wireless keyboard for internet access if you don't have a laptop. Video game controllers.

Bathroom needed better lights. Hard to really tell how your makeup looks. Better venation for moisture would be recommended too, but don't know many hotels that don't have that problem. Water pressure was a bit weak but the shower heads were great enough to compensate. All the "bath samples" items were Neutrogena not some no-name brand. Came with a full size blow dryer and LOTS of towels!

The pool and jacuzzi was clean and comfortably heated with a plentiful supply of pool towels.

Housekeeping was very good. They were very very quiet when in the halls unlike some places Ive been to.

Check out was seamless again. Just turned in keys and that was it.

Do becareful when entering and exiting their STEEP drive way. We saw a Corvette bottom out just creeping down. Go in and out on an angle is recommended. Also their garage parking structure is very low and has thin isle and parking spaces. We have a Honda Odyssey and with a medium size luggage carrier on top we just barely cleared the overhead pipes by 2 inches if that to spare.

What a dissapointment. We looked forward to staying at the property from the pictures. the lobby and public areas were very nice. However Our room smelled strongly of previous sweaty occupants and the bathroom was long overdue for an update. Mildew all around the tiles etc gave us the heebie jeebies.
We tried one night and were woken with the sounds of 2 adjoining rooms being renovated. Promptly asked to be moved. New room was better but Hilton won't get our business in the future

“Excellent for the value”

Doubletree Club Hotel San Diego

We did a 2-night stay over the Easter weekend with 2 adults and 2 kids ( 5 yr old and 8 months). The room was spacious enough for the 4 of us. The double sofabed was an added bonus so our older child got her own bed.

The warm fresh chocolate chips cookies brought big smiles to everyone. We enjoyed the comfortable beds and lots of fluffy pillows. There was enough room to park the stroller inside the room.

When we arrived in the room, we immediately checked for A/C and hot water before unpacking. The bathroom was locked and so we called the maintenance/housekeeping. Within a couple of minutes, they came to unlock the door, and maintenance guy checked the A/C and changed the filter to optimize airflow. The A/C unit was very quiet and so you could occasionally hear the freeway traffic. There's also a small balcony which was nice to enjoy some fresh air.

We went to the pool mid-morning and fortunately, we brought the room towels as there were no pool towels when we got there. The towels were brought in around 12 noon. The jacuzzi was extremely hot and so we didn't sit in it. There's also a fire pit to enjoy.

Overall, our we enjoyed our stay and we'd go back again.

“excellent location, but...”

Beautiful public spaces, convient location, insulting check in, horrible room.

I booked a suite based on a wonderful stay at another location.

Upon entering our initial suite, the carpet & furniture appeared to have extensive water damage. The curtains between the rooms were held on the rod with hot pink zip ties & curtain rings.

Our request to move to another room was granted, however the room was only slightly better. The upholstered furniture was worn and dirty.

During evening showers the water pressure & temperature fluctuated.

I was awakened by unidentified random noises.

Refrigerator & micorwave were of great use.

After viewing a recent news story, I decided to wipe the drinking glasses provided. Unfortunately on more than one occasion the white towels used were soiled.

There was a VCR only, coupled with an inability to connect portable DVD player.

Please check out the photos.

Again...beautiful public spaces, convient location, but horrible rooms.
