Rooms are plain but clean and a faily good value for the money, But the customer service at the check in counter was a little strange. I travel for work and picked this hotel due to cost and location. Both were good but the experience I had upon check in was almost rude in nature. It was a little late when I arrived as it is most of the places I go but, I felt as if they didn't want me to stay with them. I was tempted to go accross the street to one of the two hotels over there. It was late, I was tired and I stayed anyway. The rest of my stay was fine and no real problems to report. It did seem that they had some residents that lived there full time. I thought that was odd, but they did not present any problems. I am not sure how they are a three star hotel! I would say two stars.

I recently had to find accommodations for my family members that showed up unexpectedtly . After passing the California Suites Hotel on a regular basis, I finally decided to stop and check out the establishment . To my surprise it had a delightful
garden setting that most hotels do not offer and the staff there was one of many reasons we decided to stay. After several vists with my family while staying there, I have to recommend this place to anyone that vists San Diego and needs a friendly, inviting and comfortable place to stay. The beds were soft, the breakfast was plentiful and the large pool was warm.

I stayed four nights at the California Suites Hotel in San Diego in September 2007.


Neighborhood
The hotel is situated right off a freeway, but it is in a quiet neighborhood. A few blocks away there's a mall with many shops. There were a lot of parking spots available, I parked in the back, but the entire car park was fenced in, so it was safe to park there. It's pretty far from the beach or the city centre, but with a car, I found it didn't take too long to find a nice place to sightsee or have a nice meal.


Room
The rooms are simple and clean enough. This is modest standard, but given the price, the room was decent. The bed was comfortable and big. The walls are thin, so if you are a light sleeper, and especially if you need to sleep late, have some earplugs handy.

Bathroom
The bathroom was small, with a toilet and a tub. It was clean, which is the most important to me.

Service
I didn't really ask for anything from the staff, so I can't say too much about the service. They cleaned the room when I was out, which is most important to me. The persons I met at the reception desk were friendly and smiling when I checked in and out.

Short summary
As you would probably guess from the price, this isn't a hotel, but a motel, The rooms aren't suites, but they're big. But this is a nice motel that meets the requirements of most people looking for a cheap place to stay in San Diego. As such this is a place I can recommend.

I really enjoyed this hotel and felt it was very good value. The staff was friendly, the rooms were a bit small but very clean. and I loved the gardens. The pool was a ggod size and the laundry room was a nice plus. I recommend this hotel for anybody looking for decent hotel at an affordable price.
