Booked our stay thru Priceline, so had no choice on hotels. Just wanted to be sure we got at least a four star, to make sure our trip was enjoyable and as problem free as possible. The price was ok, I've seen higher and lower prices for the same hotel, so no complaint’s there. What I can complain about was the cleanliness of our rooms and the noise. The room itself was sized well enough but the bathroom was not. It is way too small. I’m 5’7” /140lbs and found it a bit annoying to move around. There is little to no space to put your bathroom essentials and there’s a considerable amount of mold and mildew in the shower and on the ceiling above the door. Apparently the housekeeping staff isn’t trained in correctly cleaning bathrooms which is evident by the abundance of dried urine around the toilet. Come on now people, everyone should know how to clean a bathroom, especially if you’re getting paid to do it! No ventilation fan, so you might want to shower with the door open, but that leaves you with a host of other problems doesn’t it. The Grand Hyatt creates the illusion of a larger room by doing away with furniture. The window ledge acts as a table for the ice bucket and glasses. Feel free to call and request a mini-fridge at $25.00 a night, if your phone works which ours didn’t, along with several light bulbs, oh the list could go on and on…Let’s review:
•Extremely small bathroom
•No ventilation fan in bathroom
•Mold and mildew abundant
•Dried urine around toilet and on wall
•Broken room phone
•Lack of space to put your things
•Several burnt out light bulbs
•Dirty sheets (what surprised?)
•Mini-fridge for $25.00 per night based on availability
•Thin walls, Mr. and Mrs. Next door discussed in depth their itinerary for the weekend and upstairs seemed to be practicing for a demolition derby
•Location was ok, but if your staying anywhere in Midtown Manhattan – your close to everything, period.
The hotel staff was courteous but was not about to go out of their way to be helpful.
Not what most people would expect from a four star hotel. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for. Next time, I’ll go with the TripAdvisor Hotel Rating, before buying.
