We've stayed in various hotels in El Paso, and it's become clear you have to take a double look at your room before you consent. At first glance our room was satisfactory for the money, but the longer we were in the room, we discovered new things. Depending on where in the suite you were sitting, you could smell mold, or vomit, or more disturbing, a strong solvent, that made me wonder if a meth lab in a neighboring room might explode in the middle of the night. Yeah, that kind of place. Though the average price of a room was about $75.00, the place had a low-budget feel.
This place is newly renovated, but the choice of materials and styles give a very cheap feel. I am a builder, and for a few dollars more spent on lighting, wood trim, etc., the feel would be different. Also, with all of the bubbling plaster, it's obvious that underlying problems were not fixed during construction, when there was the perfect opportunity.
The bath room was very tight, bubbling plaster all around the shower, the lighting was substandard. The tub and tub surround were poor choices that look ike they cost $10.00.
Equally, poor construction is apparent(i.e., gaps between different materials, poor transitions, rough surfaces). The carpet, though it is almost new, needs to be replaced. it is permanantly wet and sticky in places, and the area just inside the entry door is strangly worn through to the concrete. My toddler ran around the room barefoot and his feet turned black.
This review does not cover everything. In general, it appears the safer bet is for the other side of the freeway(IH 10) or for a better franchise.
