“Great service, rooms are beat up”

Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue

So, I come to this hotel every year for a conference, and the only thing that changes is, well, nothing.

The hotel is a beautiful old building and the staff is excellent, however, the rooms need to be gutted.

Park Hyatt tries to compete with Ritz Carlton and the Four Seasons, but having stayed at those properties in Philly, this one is an embarrassment to the brand.

Here are the negatives about the rooms:
Desk - too small, not enough plugs
Chair - not comfortable for working at for long stretches
Bathroom - WORST - peeling and torn wallpaper, holes that were once used, now plugged with caulk (both in wallpaper and tiles), shaky towel rods, etc.
Television - old 25" tv, not a new flat panel as would be expected

Basically, I stay in this hotel because I have to - as until they renovate each and every room, I would never choose to.

That being said, the staff is friendly and helpful and are the shining point for this property.

“Old & Tired”

Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue

2 of 5 stars
Connecticut
Apr 14, 2008

Hotel has an inconvienient setup in that the lobby is on the 19th floor and the rooms are on the floors below it. If you want to stop by the lobby on the way out you have to first go up before you go down. Lobby looks very makeshift with almost no sitting area. In addition the direct elevators to the lobby were out of service so we had to take two sets of elevators to get everywhere we were going.

Furnishings in rooms and halls are very dated and worn and some what dirty. Even though I am a Platininum Gold Passport member the upgrade they insisted they gave us was a small inside room that looks out on to an inside courtyard so you have no light or any idea of the weather outside. The room was also very hot even though we had the air setting set to the coolest level.

Things like a light bulb not working on a bedside lamp and only one bathrobe were quite annoying. Looking for an additional socket to find lumps of dust behind the bed was quite unsettling, ordering coffee in the morning and having a dirty saucer was disgusting, coffee by the way that I am supposed to get free of charge for being a Gold Pass member for which they insisted on charging me.

The best was that soon after we arrived we saw a staff member attending to some broken glass on the hall floor just down from our room interestingly enough she only picked up the big pieces and the smaller pieces were there on the floor for our entire stay.

Staff seemed pleasent enough though very young and inexperienced.

All in all the hotel felt more like an old three star rather then anything approaching a five star.

In the past we have stayed at the Ritz Carlton for about the same price and that is what we will do the next time. The Ritz is the hands down choice over the Park Hyatt.

“Great Location. Too Expensive. Tired Rooms.”

This hotel is in a great location for everything in Philadelphia.

BUT the rooms are so tired looking. Last decorated in the early 1980s and not updated since. For such rooms the place is way over-priced. Staff is also a bit typical 'Philadelphia' which means bad attitudes and not quick to respond.

Though the resturant and the building itself is amazing!

“Excellent Service”

Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue

Best thing about the Park Hyatt is its staff and XIX Nineteen Cafe. Everyone was friendly and very accommodating. Get this, they even come by and ask you if you want more bottle water.

If you stay at the Hyatt or even if you don’t stay at Hyatt you must eat at XIX Nineteen. Food is delicious and once again the service is excellent.

The hotel is gorgeous. The rooms are spacious and elegant with a beautiful view of the city. All the bathroom amenities you can dream of. Decorated in more traditional look, then contemporary, but nonetheless I still liked it. The locations is excellent, right in the middle of Board Street, down the street from the Kimmel Center, Merriam theater, Academy of Music , restaurants and shops on Walnut Street. Speaking shops the hotel is in the historic Bellevue building which means the Shops of the Bellevue is right under the hotel. How cool is that.

“Great location for Center City”

Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue

4 of 5 stars
Ocean County, NJ

Nice place. Booked it sight unseen and thought it to be a bit pricey. We had coupons for the second part of our stay, so we weren't too concerned, but a King Suite runs around $325 a night. We stayed on the 14th floor in an inside room (no view). The room didn't have a coffee maker or fridge (other than the over-priced mini bar) and my wife complained about the length of the cord on the hair dryer (but she had fortunately brought her own in anticipation). Room had an iron, 3 phones, and a bidet. The hotel's best feature seems to be its location, walking distance to most of the center city. Plenty of great restaurants and nightclubs in the area, walking distance even in December cold. The hotel itself was very spacious, check in on the 19th floor was a little weird, valet parking was pricey $30.00/day +tip). We didn't eat at their restaurant but the menus were very expensive ($12.00 for muffins and coffee). Not crowded, saw few guests, staff very helpful, even over the phone. Great exercise facility (5 floors with indoor running track) and Starbucks on the first floor (along with several other stores). Any other questions, we'll be happy to e-mail!
