Not knowing Philly or the area was unsure of where exactly we would be. It was an extremely great location for everything. Downtown, historic, the parks, food, tourist attractions. I parked in the garage & didn't take my car out until 3 days later when we left. Was able to walk everywhere. The hotel staff were beyond great -- they greeted us every night when we got back asking how was our day, what did we do. Even at the breakfast buffet the hostess was absolutely delightful. Went out of her way to find us one day to give us info we had asked about as did the front desk. The room was very nice - decent view of City Hall or at least William Penn. Only downfall was housekeeping was very chincy with toilet paper & kleenex. It was like pulling teeth to get an extra roll (so weird)... The price was great as well. I never write to hotels with praise - but did this one. Had wished they had a bar/dinner restaurant in hotel --- but there was a very nice one down the street. Would stay again.

“Not short of Great”

For a 2.5 star hotel, this Holiday Inn Express was WELL worth the money. The staff and cleaning crew were extremely friendly and courteous. Anytime we needed anything, they would provide it within minutes. The rooms that we got were VERY large (on the 20th floor). The location is prime as it's in the heart of center city not too far from all the historical sites. Overall, I had an EXTREMELY pleasant experience.

“One step up from a dump!”

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights.

I opened the door to the room and was met with the strong odor of cat pee. It was late and I was tired and so i thought, i'll deal with it right now and change tomorrow. So I sat on the bed and looked at the wall. There was what looked like a cheaply made closet sliding door there which I thought was strange since there was already a space to hang things up. I slid the door open and saw the back of another of the same door and realized that was the room next door.

I looked at the bottom of the door and noticed that there was a good 1.5 - 2 inches of space between the floor and the bottom of the door to where I could see more than a little of what was going on in the next room including, their bed, closet and bathroom. They could see this of my room too! Even if I did close my little door again!
WORST of all, there was no real way to lock this door. Can you believe they would put two people who arent in a related party next to each other like this? Especially a woman travelling alone?

I went back to the front desk to ask for a room without a little door and was given a "non-smoking" room which was equal to sleeping in an ashtray. I figured at that point, I'll take it, its better than the alternative.

The next day i asked people in my class who were also staying here if they had the same expereince and although no one else had been given the little door each reported sleeping in a room with a different "odor" such as mildew or smoke or pee.

I wont go into the hairs in my bathrooms and stains on the floors and walls.

There are two good things about this hotel, the location and the generous continental breakfast. Besides those two things, the rooms are old and gross, the beds are like a hammock and the staff is rude.

Stay somewhere else if you can, I would never recommend this hotel.

“Neat, Clean, Easy, Affordable”

My boyfriend and I stayed here as a quick Labor Day weekend getaway from NYC. The hotel is conveniently located downtown in the heart of the city. We were able to walk around site see, eat and enjoy the city right at our finger tips. A grocery store is located across the street and there are some great bars and restaurants in walking distance that we took advantage of. The subway is right down the street, which we took to see the Phillies vs the Atlanta Braves which was much easier than driving. I highly recommend Zanzibar Blue which is located right down the street if you like jazz and want to enjoy a great meal. Parking is $21 dollars a day, but at least the garage is located in the hotel and you don't have to look for parking on the street. We were also given a parking key that gave us 24 hour access to the garage. A parking attendant is available 24 hours a day for assistance. The hotel offers a great continental breakfast which is pretty good as CONTINENTAL breakfasts go. The room itself was very clean and neat. The bed was comfortable and the decor modern. A newspaper was delivered daily to our hotel door. Also, our hotel offered an awesome view of Philadelphia's cityline. Staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. My boyfriend recommended this hotel as he has stayed here many times for business. I wanted to stay at one of the more expensive hotels, but I will definitely stay here again.

“Good location, but some problems”

Holiday Inn Express Philadelphia Midtown

Aug 22, 2006
5/5 found this review helpful

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Midtown for two nights while visiting Downtown Philadelphia. The location was very convenient to the historical sites (about a 7 blk walk). The accomodations themselves were fine, but the staff was not friendly. The room came with a free breakfast buffet which was mediocre. We also encountered several problems during the stay. First, our toilet broke during the night. It took several hours for someone to fix it and no one was apologetic about the problem. Then, our parking garage key didn't work. Our air conditioning also didn't work too well. Lastly, no one came to clean our room on the second day and we had to call down to complain. Someone eventually came to clean it, but she was not happy because she was covering for another individual who never showed up (more than I wanted to hear). The night manager did call us to apologize and told us we would receive a discount for our inconvenience, but when we got our bill the following day, there was no discount indicated. When I mentioned the discount to the day manager, she questioned me as to who authorized such a discount. All in all, if you want a decent location at an economical price, this is the place.
