Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Midtown on the weekend of July 27-29. The location of the hotel is wonderful. - It's about two blocks from city hall, and about 6 blocks from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. We also walked to South Street but it was quite a walk. The hotel is located on a busy street in the heart of a gay neighborhood which means plenty of wonderful restaurants and a popular nightlife all around. The first 6 floors of the hotel is the parking garage, with the pool on the roof of the garage and all the rooms above that. We stayed on the 18th floor in a king bed room and it was extremely nice - probably one of the nicest Holiday Inn Express's we have ever visited. The room was very large, with a desk, and 3 other chairs. You can tell this hotel was recently renovated - I think the ballrooms are still undergoing the renovation. The pool looked very nice and was outside on a roof so it felt very private. The bathroom was split so that only the toilet and shower were behind a door, which usually is a nice feature but the door to the room took up the whole room. We had to squeeze up against the shower curtain to open the door and exit - not a big deal but still it gets annoying.
We had some minor problems with the service - Housekeeping never showed up, so when we returned to our room at 10pm we called the front desk and asked for some towels... at 11:30 we gave up and just went to bed.
The breakfast room was wonderful, plenty of options with many tables. I wouldn't recommend a booth though! For some reason the booths were so small! You could barely fit between the seat and the table.
Bottom line: Would I stay here again? Absolutely. The location makes up for all of the shortcomings of the staff.
FYI - There is a nightly parking fee of 21 dollars. They are very strict about the parking because the garage is owned by an independent company.
