“Great location, below average service”

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Midtown on the weekend of July 27-29. The location of the hotel is wonderful. - It's about two blocks from city hall, and about 6 blocks from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. We also walked to South Street but it was quite a walk. The hotel is located on a busy street in the heart of a gay neighborhood which means plenty of wonderful restaurants and a popular nightlife all around. The first 6 floors of the hotel is the parking garage, with the pool on the roof of the garage and all the rooms above that. We stayed on the 18th floor in a king bed room and it was extremely nice - probably one of the nicest Holiday Inn Express's we have ever visited. The room was very large, with a desk, and 3 other chairs. You can tell this hotel was recently renovated - I think the ballrooms are still undergoing the renovation. The pool looked very nice and was outside on a roof so it felt very private. The bathroom was split so that only the toilet and shower were behind a door, which usually is a nice feature but the door to the room took up the whole room. We had to squeeze up against the shower curtain to open the door and exit - not a big deal but still it gets annoying.

We had some minor problems with the service - Housekeeping never showed up, so when we returned to our room at 10pm we called the front desk and asked for some towels... at 11:30 we gave up and just went to bed.

The breakfast room was wonderful, plenty of options with many tables. I wouldn't recommend a booth though! For some reason the booths were so small! You could barely fit between the seat and the table.

Bottom line: Would I stay here again? Absolutely. The location makes up for all of the shortcomings of the staff.

FYI - There is a nightly parking fee of 21 dollars. They are very strict about the parking because the garage is owned by an independent company.

Lovely hotel in heart of city. Nice restaurants surrounding. Lovely breakfast. Friendly staff. Close to bus stops and shopping.
Only problem was parking. No place to park to drop off or pick up luggage. There are only 2 luggage carts and they are guarded and not offered until you ask. Kept out of sight.
Would stay here again. Room spotless and bed comfy. Could use more cable channels.

“Very Disappointed”

We have stayed at other Holiday Inn Expresses and have been quite pleased but this one was the exception. The front desk lied to me twice on the phone before arriving. They said we would be able to have a rollaway bed in the room but when we arrived we were told we could not! We had to make a makeshift bed out of the chairs for my daughter to sleep in. Luckily we were only there for two nights. Second problem, as a Priority Club member we were supposed to have a newspaper delivered in the morning - never happened. We had also asked for a Frig which never showed up. The staff tolorated us and we were not treated with respect. Last and absolutely not least - the parking is terrible. Our visit to Phili was fun but stress caused by this hotel was annoying to say the least.

“Great location, awful service”

Holiday Inn Express Philadelphia Midtown

I have never seen such awful service in a hotel. We waited 30 minutes to check in, and we were only the second group in line!

It's such a close walk to everything, so it was worth the bad service and the slightly higher rates. It's 1-5 blocks to all of the gay bars -- this hotel is in what is called the gayborhood ... which means nice restaurants and fun bars. All of the historic sites are walkable, but walk in a group - Philly is rough! The hotel pool is kinda nice to sit at, but kinda green, so we didn't go in.

The room itself was pretty nice - the beds were comfortable, shower was nice, no complaints.

I had a really great time here. Loved the location. No need for a rent car if going to see the historical sights. I was originally charged long distance charges for a few local calls, but they took it off with noproblem. I had asked for the late check out entitled to Priority Club members and they kept calling/coming by to see if I was gone yet during those two hours which was aggravating. Other than that, very helpful, courteous, clean. Had a great time at my first visit in Philly!
