“Sheer joy! Susan and Chalo are to be beloved!”

Dekoven Suites

5 of 5 stars
Williamsburg, Michigan

I rate Dekoven Suites as excellent for anyone who wishes to stay in Brooklyn, or who is visiting on vacation. My trip could not have been made more pleasant by innkeepers Susan and Chalo, who are dear friends to any weary traveler who wanders to their door. I made the mistake of taking the subway with my heavy bags (next time I will take a car service), and had difficulty finding Dekoven Suites when I arrived in Brooklyn. By the time I arrived at the Inn, I had a nasty scowl on my face. Chalo greeted me warmly, asked what I would like, made me feel right at home within seconds! If you don't mind a shared bathroom (I didn't have to share, as I was the solo guest during my visit) the accomodations cannot be beat. Fresh figs and a warm bagel was my breakfast every morning, and the house is warm and cozy. I highly recommend it with the caveat that for business travelers who work in Manhattan, Brooklyn might not be the best location for your stay. The trains are often backed up and sometimes stop for long delays. It is a good thirty minute ride into Grand Central.

“Good accomodation at a reasonable price”

I really enjoyed our short stay in New York and could not fault Susan and Chalo who made us feel welcome and did everything to help us enjoy our brief stay.
The accomodation is spacious and well kept - I am not a fan of staying in a basement appartment but this was a minor inconvenience for all the space and decent shower. The AirCon was essential for that time of year - thanks.
Our only problem was the walk to the Subway (all NY subways look rough) - I am sure it looks worse than it really is and its only a few minutes walk away but it felt uncomfortable walking it in the dark; too many movies probably.
The journey into Manhattan is short (20 mins) if the B train turns up, or about 30mins to Times sq if the Q appears. I would have preferred to stay right in the middle of Manhattan just so we could have stayed late in the centre but for a family of four it was too expensive in peak season.
I ended up with a taste of Brooklyn though and some nice memories. Thanks Susan for all your help in advance of our arrival.

We loved our stay here. The 'suite' consisted of a bedroom, living room with tv and bathroom. Everywhere was clean and the whole place felt like a well-cared-for home. Breakfast was good and included cereals, juice, coffee etc. as well as either croissants or bagels (extra nice). Lots of info was provided and the friendly hosts, Susan and Chalo knew lots too. They recommended a good local bar with a strange bowling alley inside! I think we paid $150 per night for the 2 of us, but perhaps it was less?!

If you're thinking of staying in Manhatten - don't. From Dekoven Suites you cvan be there in 20/25 minutes, including the 5 minute walk to the station. Brooklyn is far more interesting and has better night life.

Special thanks to Susan and Chalo for sorting us out on our final night too.

... Susan & Chalo for the very first time, that you immediately feel like "family"! For first time visitors to NYC, you couldn't ask for better guides. And after a long day in the city, it was relaxing to come "home" to a cozy little neighborhood in Brooklyn. Dekoven suites' location is ideal being just a stone's throw from the subway and, incidentally, just a couple of blocks from the most charming little Italian restaurant. NY really does it up for the holiday season-- we had a fabulous time sight-seeing and eating! Thank you so much for participating in our project, Susan & Chalo!! :)
