A delightful stay from the first moment we arrived. Never have we stayed in a B&B with so many well-appointed common rooms. The main room with a wood burning fireplace, coffee bar, comfortable furnishings, and fully stocked guest kitchen, was the setting for a wine and cheese tasting on Saturday afternoon. With fabulous local cheeses and home-baked morsels to accompany the variety of libations presented by a local winery we were delighted with this unexpected treat.
The home theatre offered plush couches and a collection of DVD's for viewing on the big screen projection TV. We admired the innkeepers' private wine cellar through glass doors and spent an hour just relaxing in the comfortable peace and quiet.
The library had many lovely artifacts from the inkeepers' former travels abroad and it was a delight to peruse these while enjoying conversation with our friendly hosts. This room also housed a grand piano which stood ready for more musical guests than ourselves.
The dining room was as elegant as the exceptional, gourmet breakfast we we were served there; we especially enjoyed the chandelier lit with taper candles.
The grounds include a huge pasture with grazing sheep, llamas and a horse, splendid gardens, and a cozy, fully screened gazebo. During our stay, the innkeeper was installing a waterfall amidst the gardens and it looked like one more quality addition to the first class landscaping.
Our lovely room was everything you could want. The bed was dressed with an abundance of fluffy pillows and a down comforter. The window overlooked the pasture through a window seat I found comfortable while spending time lost in a novel. My husband was equally relaxed in the arm chair. We meant to take advantage of the writing desk, but, instead, brought back complimentary postcards to share with family.
The bathroom was fully equipped with bathrobes, plush towels - more than we used, plenty of space, a large whirlpool tub and a Roman shower. Although our room was not the most expensive one in the inn, we will probably request the same one when we return.
The innkeepers were knowledgeable about the area and directed us to activities and restaurants that suited our needs perfectly. There was more to do than we had time for and we are looking forward to a return trip. The inn is on the very edge of Madison so we enjoyed a restful time at what felt like a country recluse a million miles from anywhere, yet, was only a 15 minute drive to the heart of Madison.
Hands down, this is the place to escape to in the Madison area.
