We had planned to stay at the Country Inn and Suites for two nights, March 2nd and 3rd precruise but mother Nature intervened and a snow storm delayed us by a full day and we arrived near midnight on Friday night.
Check in was smooth and the hotel was only a block from Canal Street where we took a stroll before bed. The street that the Hotel is on, Magazine Street, is a one way and when you cross Canal Street it's name changes to Decatur, the main drag running along the Mississippi. This is the street with the French Market and lots of sites. It's a very nice, safe and a easy stroll.
Our room was huge, with 12 foot ceilings and all the niceties one would expect. I'd requested a quiet room and ours had no window to the outdoors, but we had a window over looking the hallway and open air lobby (well, almost open air, there's a glass skylight keeping the elements out)
My only complaint was that the walls were a tad thin. We could hear (faintly) the people in the room next to us. Fortunately everyone was well behaved so noise was not an issue, but if you were unfortunate enough to get partyers as your neighbours, it might be.
The buffet breakfast was very satisfying and included a do-it-yourself waffle station.
When we checked out I was pleasantly surprised that even though I was charged for two nights on my credit card when I booked, they immediately credited me for the first night that we'd missed due to the snow storm! (I had called that night to let them know I was stuck and would be checking in the first night) I did not have to ask for it, they just credited me.
They were also happy to let us leave our luggage with them when our cruise was over a week later so we could walk around the French Quarter before our late afternoon flight home.
We will definitely stay at at the Country Inn and Suites again.
