Just got back from four nights in New Orleans. Stayed at the Hotel St. Marie which is just a perfect location for what we wanted to do, visit the French Quarter and other nearby sites.
We booked the room three months in advance so the rate was very good, $58.00 per night plus taxes.
The room wasn't on a balcony and didn't face directly unto Toulouse Street. The view below the small window was of the air conditioning units but looking straight out we could look over the roofs of nearby houses. We didn't experience any outside noises like some have noted. The temperatures ranged from the 60's to the lower 80's during our stay. The air did work and kept the room comfortable. Our room was somewhat small but for our purposes it really didn't matter, we didn't come to New Orleans to sit in the room. Oh, if you are with someone else make sure you know them well. The door to the bathroom isn't really a door but more of a shutter so all sounds come through.
The courtyard is nice and has great atmosphere. Since the hotel is so close to the nightspots in the French Quarter you can easily walk back after a rousing night of Blues.
I would recommend it but maybe next time get a room with a balcony. If you want someplace with a ton of extras then you probably will not want to stay there. The basics, with a nice New Orleans feel was what we wanted and we got it here.
