Just got back from four nights in New Orleans. Stayed at the Hotel St. Marie which is just a perfect location for what we wanted to do, visit the French Quarter and other nearby sites.
We booked the room three months in advance so the rate was very good, $58.00 per night plus taxes.
The room wasn't on a balcony and didn't face directly unto Toulouse Street. The view below the small window was of the air conditioning units but looking straight out we could look over the roofs of nearby houses. We didn't experience any outside noises like some have noted. The temperatures ranged from the 60's to the lower 80's during our stay. The air did work and kept the room comfortable. Our room was somewhat small but for our purposes it really didn't matter, we didn't come to New Orleans to sit in the room. Oh, if you are with someone else make sure you know them well. The door to the bathroom isn't really a door but more of a shutter so all sounds come through.
The courtyard is nice and has great atmosphere. Since the hotel is so close to the nightspots in the French Quarter you can easily walk back after a rousing night of Blues.
I would recommend it but maybe next time get a room with a balcony. If you want someplace with a ton of extras then you probably will not want to stay there. The basics, with a nice New Orleans feel was what we wanted and we got it here.

Our stay was great and the price was great for being so close to everything. Stayed three nights in room facing Toulouse Street. The hotel has a awesome location in the french quarter. The room was nice and beds were comfortable. We had a wonderful balcony that featured a table and chairs to enjoy the evening entertainment.
The only drawback was hearing the Opera House most of the night. We are early birds so that didn't help. Guess it should be expected so close to Bourbon St.

“Quaint, clean and professional, great location”

This is a great stay in New Orleans. The hotel provided great service and the staff was very professional. The rooms/hotel were very clean and nicely decorated. The rooms have balconies that overlook and beautiful courtyard. To top it off, it's right in the heart of the French Quarter about a 1/2 block off Bourban Street on Toulouse. I will stay there again and would definitely recommend it to others.

“Decent”

Hotel St. Marie

My husband and I just returned from our stay in New Orleans at the St. Marie. We only paid $67.00 a night for a "superior king room", so we were leary in what to expect. However it was nicer than we anticipated. It is a very old hotel with one elevator. The room was clean but old and and a bit musty. It shows some signs of wear and tear. We probably wouldn't advise staying there during hot months, the A/C as talked about in previous reviews does not work that well. Our room faced a side street in the quarter and we were awakened one night at 2:00AM by a dumpster truck emptying dumpsters. We laughed because someone had put that in their review about this hotel also, and we had forgot until we heard the racket. The location of this hotel is prime, and felt safe. If you're used to staying in top notch places like the Omni,or other 4 or 5 star hotels this place probably isn't for you. Overall it's clean, quiet, modestly priced, and in a great location.
