Ace Hotel

Over the past year and a half, I have stayed in a total of 5 different rooms at the Ace- NOT including the Ace in Portland.

There are some truths in some of the negative feedback that has been displayed on here- but in all honesty there isn't much negative to say about the Ace.

The staff is friendly, and informational- they arranged to have a Lincoln Towncar take me to the airport, and it cost the same as a dingy cab would have- didn't have a laptop with me, but I needed directions to a few places and they printed them out for me. It is true the rooms are quite small, but when I go to Seattle, my goal isn't to lie poolside and sip on winecoolers, and lounge in my hotel room- ITS SEATTLE! Location is awesome; very close to Pike Place Market/Needle/several shops/bars/resturants/etc. If you're not a smoker (I am) and can handle walking about 8-10 blocks and not feel like youre going to die afterwards, the retail district is within walking distance- or if you are not thrilled to walk, you can easily hop on a bus, or take a cab.
There is a convenience store right across the street. Doors are locked after midnight; it can be somewhat noisy at night, if your window is open- but you're downtown, so what do you expect??!

All of the rooms that I stayed in were clean; having a sink in the room is a plus (don't have to walk in the hallway to the shared bathroom looking haggard, in your PJs just to brush your teeth). Shared bathrooms are actually a good thing if you're staying with someone- you don't have to fight for the shower, you can both get ready at the same time!

I've stayed in two other hotels in Seattle - Hotel Max, and the Moore Hotel- and while I loved the other two, the Ace will always be my favorite!!!

The rooms are cheap- but they aren't cheap as in- Bates Motel- you're going to be mugged while you're sleeping, or 'filthy' cheap- the Ace just doesn't have all of the amenities that some people demand while traveling. It's an ideal hotel for singles/young-ish/business people who aren't planning on staying couped up in their room while calling room service all day.

CJ's is an awesome breakfast place on 1st Street, up a few blocks (walk towards the needle, it's on your left).

I will most definitely stay there again.

Me and my wife try to stay there every February and love it, you get to meet alot of cool people at breakfast and there is a certain amount of commraderie that comes with community bathrooms, and please remember that ALL hotel bathrooms are community bathrooms. Breakfast was refreshing ( doesn't weigh you down all day ) and it is close to everything, bars and nightlife are all within walking distance and the staff had good suggestions. This is not for everyone but if you are cool and like other cool people and don't mind sharing or interacting with other humans than this is the place for you

A friend raved about this hotel, and i wasn't disappointed.

Very modern, clean, crisp well thought out design (loved the blown up photos on the walls), fairly basic in terms of food (shared, help-yourself kitchen in the basement) - but for the price couldn't have asked for any more.

Great location, close to Pike Place Market, and very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay there again and again.

this is not a hotel for everyone; it's highly edited, highly stylized, definately not one size fits all...think Rei Kawakubo and not Dockers...in fact, if you own Dockers, stop reading this right now.

for everyone else listening, pack your old Factory kit and spend a Warholesque journey to the sublime...

“Great staff, good value”

Ace Hotel

I've stayed at the Ace probably 6 times over the past six years. It's in one of my favorite (and incredibly convenient) neighborhoods. There's tons of stuff to do, places to eat, and great shopping all in close walking distance.

The staff this time was definitely better than before. The first couple times I stayed there (in 2001 and early 2002), the staff was really aloof and way too into the fact that they were working in a nicely designed, young, trendy hotel. But now every single staff person I encountered was super friendly, helpful, and cheery. That makes it an even better place to stay!

Yes, the rooms are spare, a little chilly, and they don't have huge flatscreens in them. But if you just want an inexpensive, clean, centrally located place to crash, this is a great place. If you're looking for a plush bed, romantic surroundings, and room service, this isn't your place.
