“Decent Hotel, Good Breakfast”

Silver Cloud Inn - Lake Union

3 of 5 stars
Vancouver, BC
Mar 16, 2008

We chose this hotel based on the Trip Advisor reviews and on the price (they were offering a slight discount, but I think the price was still a little high for what it was). The room was a good size, but I wouldn't exactly call it a "Deluxe" Water View King Room. The view was nice when we were sitting on the bed because we were far enough away from the window to avoid seeing the commercial buildings and the street below. The location kind of sucked, except that it was a quick shuttle-ride/drive into downtown and it was a short walk to Dukes Chowder House (fantastic food, good service, kid-friendly) along a pretty little boardwalk. The free shuttle was great. The driver was very nice, they had a car-seat for our toddler, and they left the hotel every half-hour (this has obviously changed from the once-an-hour departures of last December). We were excited by the big-screen tv in our room, as we were hoping to watch a movie on it - the only problem was, the movie I was dying to see wasn't working properly (the desk attendant said it had been watched too many times). The best part of our stay was definitely the continental breakfast - had yummy self-made waffles with strawberry sauce and yogurt, the coffee was decent (we liked that they offered free coffee in the lobby - wasn't always hot, but better than having to make it in our room), and it was a bright and spacious room. We also liked that the hotel had it's own tiny convenient store.
So, although our initial impression was a little disappointing due to the not-so-scenic location and thanks to an unfriendly and unhelpful man at the front desk (he had absolutely no interest in giving me any tips about the area and didn't smile once), our over-all stay wasn't bad at all.

“Very satisfied; would stay again”

Silver Cloud Inn - Lake Union

We selected the Silver Cloud Inn Lake Union based in large part on its excellent reviews on tripadvisor.com. We wanted one of the hotels on Lake Union because we were attending the Seattle Boat Show.

The Silver Cloud Inn turned out to be an excellent choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was quite large and very clean and comfortable, with a lovely view of the lake. The breakfast (included in the price) was fine -- it's a "serve yourself" buffet. There aren't alot of choices, but it served our needs perfectly.

One huge plus for this hotel is the shuttle bus service between the hotel and downtown. When it's not too busy, they will even take you to or pick you up at a specific downtown location, wherever you might want.

The ONLY negative we found was that there is no bar in the hotel and you can't even buy a bottle of wine in the sundries shop. But, there are plenty of places nearby, so it probably won't matter to most people.

We'd definitely stay here again.

Just returned from a 5 night stay here and it was a very pleasant stay. Staff was friendly, shuttle was a plus. Wasn't very crowded, maybe since it is January as was most places we visited wasn't crowded as well. Free parking can't be beat. Our room,(5th floor) was quite spacious and clean. Our view consisted of building construction and I-5 overpass, no biggie as we were gone most of the day. Good food less than 10 mins. walk away. Have to try Duke's clam chowder, the best! About the only minus is 2 nights I went downstairs to get of coffee and they were out. Also one morning during breakfast, they were out as well. Breakfast is so-so, basic. The breakfast room as well as the lobby is cosy . Family with children will be disappointed that there is no kids channel except PBS in the morning but other than that good selection of channels . All in all, you won't be dissapointed.

“Perfect Location, Great Service”

I have stayed at the Silver Cloud on several occasions and never had a single problem. I finally decided I should write a review. This is a great location if you want quick, easy access to downtown Seattle.
I did not have a car so I used the hotel shuttle service, which was excellent.
The staff is super friendly and the rooms are clean and nicely done.
All in all, it is just a great hotel. I don't even bother looking at other hotels anymore.
