“Sincere owner is determined to make it a pet friendly place”

Capitol Hill Guest House

I have stayed in this guest house in March, and as I mentioned before that this is a real nice and clean guest house, but we had had a bit trouble with the inn keeper for our pet, as he was making us to carry the pet and restrain the dog in the bedroom only.

Ever since we came back to Calgary, the guest house owner has phoned twice to apologize and informed us that she has talked to the Inn keeper and made sure he understand the pet policy. She mentioned that she has a dog herself and every time she comes to the guest house, her dog always happily run around the house and it is never a problem.

Beyond our expectation, she even refunded our accommodation in full and asked us to give them another chance to host us and make sure the pet issue will work out well.

We are very impressed by her sincerity, and she made us feel being treated equal as every other guests. She also mentioned that she will make sure to let the pet allergic guests know that this is a pet friendly place, so pets will be allowed to walk around the house.

Her sincere apology really has made up for the earlier trouble and we will definitely stay again in Capital Hill Guest house if we happen to stay in Seattle again in the future!

“Great B&B in good location”

Capitol Hill Guest House

Apr 11, 2008

A good B&B (nice bed linens, cream deep pile carpets, bath robes, quiet, nice breakfast) in a great location. We dined at the Kingfish Cafe which was fantastic - great Southern food and only a 10 minute walk away. I would not recommend this if you like to be fussed over as the breakfast is help yourself etc but if you like to be independent, like peace and quiet and be in a nice neighbourhood this is for you.

“Great House, Not So Great Location”

Capitol Hill Guest House

Feb 29, 2008

Stayed here last fall on a sightseeing trip for 2 nights. A wonderful, modern B and B. Very clean bathrooms, plush robes and towels, ultra soft linens. Wireless internet worked perfectly. Very quiet house. This is not your typical b and b with breakfast served in the morning; rather it is a do-it-yourself affair BUT the food is provided. Great pastries and yogurts, though wish there had been some lower-fat stuff available.
The only thing I regretted about staying here was the location. If you know Seattle well and/or have a car, that is no problem. However I didn't know Seattle at all and did not have a car, and found the bus system difficult to figure out. Had read somewhere (here, maybe?) before booking that the House is walking distance to downtown - but it really is not. Took about 35 minutes to get downtown, walking fast. And then after touring around downtown all day, walked uphill all the way back to the B and B. Luckily I had a friend with me - by myself, this would have been a demoralizing walk, as the scenery is not great - busy streets, commercial, lots of cars.
There are no restaurants within walking distance, so went downtown again for dinner. This time we cabbed it and it cost about $15 each way. Made for an expensive night out. Would much preferred a hotel downtown.
If I go to Seattle again, I will not stay in Capitol Hill. I will spend the extra $30 or so and get a 4* hotel downtown. That way I will have the convenience of walking everywhere - many great restaurants downtown, also a few theatres - and will be close to the major bus routes to get to other neighbourhoods.
Bottom line: great house and amenities, but not a good location for tourists.

“A Home Away From Home”

Capitol Hill Guest House

Nov 27, 2007

I love the Capitol Hill Guest House. Over the past couple of years, I have stayed there both as a short-term guest and a long-term guest. It has, in essence, become a "home away from home" for me.

What I love about "the Guest House", as we regulars call it, is that it offers all the benefits of a communal atmosphere, while being set up to accommodate the "independent" traveler or guest. The kitchen is bright and sunny, and stocked with everything you need to cook a fabulous meal while enjoying conversations with other guests. The living room is warm and cozy where you'll often find a group of guests gathered to watch the latest movie on DVD. The bedrooms are warmly decorated should you prefer some quiet time in your room. In addition, the Guest House is walking distance from 15th Ave E. - an urban village offering a great selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants - and is a short bus ride to downtown Seattle.

The best part of the Guest House experience is that it attracts travelers from all over the world who enjoy sharing their culture and life experiences. It tends to fare well with people who enjoy, and are comfortable with, a communal atmosphere. The owner, Shannon, and the on-site manager Michael, are very inclusive and do a great job of bringing together guests who are looking for a rich, social experience. They also do a wonderful job of keeping the house functioning well, and ensuring that the needs of ALL the guests - whether they are looking for a social or a more private, independent experience - are held in balance.

For the long-term guest, you can't beat the value and flexibility offered by the Guest House - especially if you're in the midst of a transition (i.e. relocating, between homes, in a residency or internship program, etc.) The monthly rate, given all the Guest House amenities, is hard to beat in such a desirable neighborhood. Also, the fact that you don't have to sign a monthly rental agreement has its definite advantages.

For the short-term guest, you can't beat the proximity to downtown Seattle, while being able to retreat to a warm and convivial home in one of Seattle's most beautiful neighborhoods.

“Great find”

Capitol Hill Guest House

The guesthouse is in a great location with access to public transortation to all parts of Seattle yet in a friendly residential neighborhood. There is a mix of short and long term guests - interesting people from all over the world and from all walks of life. I have been here for several months while in a graduate program in Seattle. This a great place for those who like to take responsibility for themselves, cook their own meals and explore the many restaurants and shops within walking distance. Guests are free to keep to themselves or hang out in the common areas and trade travel and life stories. For me the house has been a home away from home and a place where I have had the opportunity to cross paths with many wonderful people, some who have become close friends.

The manager, Michael and Owner, Shannon, have been helpful and great hosts while respecting guest's privacy. If you want to be waited on and pampered you may not enjoy this house but if you want a place that feels like home and are willing to pitch in to clean up your own mess in the kitchen, come to the best place in Seattle to see Seattle.
