The recently opened Lincoln Museum in Springfield is a must see for anyone lucky enough to be in the area. Very user friendly and all on one floor it is easy accessible for everyone in the family. We went on a day when it was relatively quiet which made it more enjoyable for us but when we asked we were told once vacation time arrives and school parties it can be very busy.
Dedicated to the life and times of Abraham Lincoln it offers different 'walks' through time in his life from the early childhood cabin to the civil war, his assassination and death. The holograms are a must see whether you are a history lover or not it will amaze you.
There is a cafe on site, though we did not have time to visit it, there is also a gift shop which sells the usual museum, type of gifts.
One thing to note is that you are not allowed to take photographs on the walks, we were not told this nor did we see any signs giving this information but when we took some pictures in the 'white house' a security guard came in and asked us to delete them, the volunteers who work in the museum and are outside all the walks are meant too tell you when you enter but ours obviously forgot.
A nice touch is that you are given wrist bands which will allow you to re enter the museum if you want to leave for lunch or another tour.
I did find myself wishing they would have included more information on what happened to Mrs Lincoln after the assassination and his surviving son, but even then it is a lovely place to visit and just made me more interested in that time in the development of the USA
