“A stint at Il Silvestrino in Stintino”

Hotel Ristorante Silvestrino

5 of 5 stars
New York, NY
May 11, 2008

Il Silvestrino is an absolutely lovely, family-run hotel and restaurant smack in the middle of the fishing village Stintino, on the northwest tip of Sardinia. Due to a variety of circumstances, the friend I was traveling with had to leave, so I was in Stintino for five days, alone, without a car (and I don't drive). Since it was off season (April), I was fairly isolated (I had to take several busses to get anywhere). Yet I had a terrific time. My room at Il Silvestrino was beautiful--it was at the top of the inn (no stairs) with a giant roof deck overlooking the village and the azure sea and boats bobbing in the water. Accommodations were simple but very clean, and Rita, the daughter of the man who started this hotel in 1949, was terrific. She speaks wonderful English (and French and German and a variety of other languages) and made me feel extremely welcome, looking up various bus schedules and booking a day long trip on a catamaran to Assinara island (recommended)! Best of all was the restaurant--it's the best in town and I ate there every night. The seafood (fresh, local) was outrageously delicious, the local Sardinian desserts equally so.

Days, I walked the 3 km. to La Pelosa beach, which was spectacular (but small--I would not recommend trying this beach during high season, but low season, it was perfect). Other than that, I lounged on my terrace, took the aforementioned sailing trip and enjoyed the food! I'd highly recommend this place, especially since it was only 60 euros off season!

Travelled to Stintino in July during a 10 day trip to Sardinia.

A def must visit if you have a car and are able to make the 40 min drive from Alghero! The beaches in Stintino are fantastic and the sea is wonderful.

Hotel Silvestrino is a magnificent place to stay! The hotel itself is nothing incredible, but rooms are very clean and simple - fine for any standard. What makes this hotel special is the restaurant and the staff!

The entire team from reception lady to cook and waiters made our 3 day stay here an absolute joy. Constantly looking to help and making us feel so welcome - they went out of their way to help us book a day boat trip, advise us on where to visit or eat (by the way the Hotel Restaurant is incredible - and by far the best and most popular place to eat in Stintino).

Couldn't recommend this place more - made this part of our holiday all the more special thanks to the management and hotel.

Will def be returning when I come back to Sardinia!

“Great Island, not so great hotel”

We loved our stay in Sardinia, beautiful beaches, great food and fantastic weather. We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Silvestrino, right in the centre of the little village of Stintino, in the North of the island, not faraway from the famous beach "La Pelosa". The room was clean and not too small, the main problem was the noise coming from other rooms. The wall are so thin that if your neighbours wake up at 6.30 am... you do the same. I should also mention that the local church is 300 meters away from the hotel and the bells plays every 30 minutes from 7 am on. This is of course not the hotel's responsibility, but people not used to it risk to find it hard to sleep until late in the morning if they wish to do so. The hotel has a restaurant where food is quite good, even though is not cheap for local standard . The biggest "pro" is the nearby beach of "La Pelosa", which is really one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy. It must be noted however that a car is necessary to get there if you do not want to walk 4 kilometres under the Sardinian sun. We will go back to Sardinia but we will not stay again at this Hotel.
