Il Silvestrino is an absolutely lovely, family-run hotel and restaurant smack in the middle of the fishing village Stintino, on the northwest tip of Sardinia. Due to a variety of circumstances, the friend I was traveling with had to leave, so I was in Stintino for five days, alone, without a car (and I don't drive). Since it was off season (April), I was fairly isolated (I had to take several busses to get anywhere). Yet I had a terrific time. My room at Il Silvestrino was beautiful--it was at the top of the inn (no stairs) with a giant roof deck overlooking the village and the azure sea and boats bobbing in the water. Accommodations were simple but very clean, and Rita, the daughter of the man who started this hotel in 1949, was terrific. She speaks wonderful English (and French and German and a variety of other languages) and made me feel extremely welcome, looking up various bus schedules and booking a day long trip on a catamaran to Assinara island (recommended)! Best of all was the restaurant--it's the best in town and I ate there every night. The seafood (fresh, local) was outrageously delicious, the local Sardinian desserts equally so.
Days, I walked the 3 km. to La Pelosa beach, which was spectacular (but small--I would not recommend trying this beach during high season, but low season, it was perfect). Other than that, I lounged on my terrace, took the aforementioned sailing trip and enjoyed the food! I'd highly recommend this place, especially since it was only 60 euros off season!
