“wonderful stay!”

Marriott Atlanta Downtown

Jun 10, 2008

We stayed for four nights at the Marriott downtown while my hubby attended at huge conference at the GWCC. The place was completely booked, but you couldnt tell it by the service. We used the pool several times. The only thing missing is a hot tub. We did not eat at any of their restaurants or have room service, so I dont know anything about those. The rooms were super clean, well decorated, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Every employee we encountered was great. Every time we came off the elevator, the desk attendant greeted us and asked if we needed anything. Internet access was extra, though. Which I thought was a little crappy for a business hotel. They had ice cream and punch set up two nights in the lobby. The valet guys were so nice, as well as the man who brought our luggage up. We would def. stay here again if needed to be downtown. I did not feel comfortable walking to and from this hotel, but that has nothing to do with Marriott, it has everything to do with aggressive panhandlers in downtown. We encountered it everywhere in downtown that we went, not just around our hotel.

“Horrible Hotel Experience”

Marriott Atlanta Downtown

1 of 5 stars
providence
Jun 3, 2008

This was not only the most horrible Marriot experience but also by far the worse hotel experience I've ever had! The hotel is in need of renovation since dirty carpeting and a horrible odor in the hall and rooms are first impressions. Only one out of three elevators worked causing long lines and irate customers. As a Marriott member, I was upgraded to a suite however my toilet overflowed three times (with maintenance calls for each incident) before getting repaired. Major repairs were being completed one night with open buckets of acetone with fumes and no ventilation in the lobby causing a very unhealthy and unpleasant night. Without getting into further detail, additional negative circumstances occurred resulting in a very terrible stay. There are many other choices in the area, this traveler recommends seeking out alternative choices.

“Great Place”

Marriott Atlanta Downtown

Apr 7, 2008

We chose the Marriott because of the aquarium package. We had never stayed in a Marriott, but I'm a fan now. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Burl, the very nice doorman, got us some late-night reservations and was very knowledgeable about the area.

Breakfast buffet was included with our package. We found it quite generous and varied. There was construction going on while we were there, so the waffle and omelet bars were unavailable, but our server made sure we were offered them. She, Ivan, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. When we returned nearly 3 weeks later, she actually remembered us and again gave us a warm welcome and fantastic service.

I had been charged for internet, but hadn't used it. The front desk credited it off my bill, no problem. Check-in and check-out were fast and painless. Housekeeping is amazing. We'd go to breakfast and come back to a clean room. I appreciated that.

I'll come back to this hotel, and will certainly try them in other cities as well.

“Service -10 Problem Solving- 0”

Marriott Atlanta Downtown

2 of 5 stars
Florida
Apr 6, 2008

In ATL for Apparel Market.Upon arriving the valet guys were hoofing It as it poured down rain. They were trying so hard to keep everyone out of the rain and moving quickly.Service a 10.Went inside and checked in,had the most pleasant gentleman working at the front desk.Speedy check in and again Service 10.Bellhop walked with us up to the room and as we walked down the hall we could hear a PARTY going on and spilling out into the hall with clothing(shorts and tshirts)in the middle of the walkway of the hall.As It turned out the party happened to be right across the hall(my luck). We decided to let someone else complain about the noise as It was surely going to happen. And it did.At 11:30 a womans voice yelled out that they needed to shut the [--] up.They proceeded to yell out that in fact she needed to shut the [--] up.And so it began, a 2 hour odyssey of security guards, explanations and he said she saids. The womans husband/boyfriend came to her defense and a fight erupted. When we called the front desk, they wouldnt answer the call knowing what we were calling about and didnt want to face the music. They should have thrown these punks out WAY earlier. Of course the police arrived all the while we are trying to watch the 15$ movie that we couldnt pause. The same night, before the hockey game broke out in the hallway,we had ordered room service at 8:50 only after two calls and lost tickets did the food arrive at 11:05 just in time for the prefight.Neither of us ate the 103.00 meal as It was already too late.
The next day with minimal sleep and 9 hours at market,we arrived in the room to find the toilet had leaked out water all over the place. We called they fixed and 2 hours after clean-up It happened AGAIN!The final note to a miserable stay was the paper thin walls and constant slamming of doors all night made for a miserable experience.Overall the rooms are quite nice and the staff could train any hotel in that city on great customer service but are certainly not the greatest problem solvers. As I always end my reviews:You can have the best customer sevice in the world, but if you cant back it all up efficiently and effectively, you dont have a darn thing.
