We live in Georgia but have stayed at the Intercontinental twice when we had wine dinners in Atlanta. On our most recent stay we got a chance to compare both the club level at the Intercontinental and at the Ritz Carlton on the same night. Either is your best bet for a luxury level hotel in Atlanta's Buckhead area. Intercontinental is upscale and modern but just doesn't have the 'it' factor of the Ritz. The Ritz is a bit dated and worn but the service is just that bit extra. The lobby bar at the ritz is always hopping even early on saturday while their high tea is still being poured. The Ritz club level had decent wine and champagne on ice, tons of good appitizers (tuna tartar was pretty darn good) while Intercontinental had beer and wine but pretty limited poor quality choices and not nearly the same spread of food. Our club level room at the IC was same sized as a regular room and it smelled like pee even after I called and asked them to come see if they could freshen it up. The IC bar scene is straight out hip hop which I personally like but others might feel out of place. Anyone would enjoy the Ritz's bar especially if you like people watching. Both club levels had the exact same type people (read older and rich). the IC rooms I have stayed in before are very nice, modern and have tons of amenities. i just think our room this trip was a dud but I was more interested in the club level areas and the lobby bars anyway. Price wise our IC room rate was half of what the ritz carlton was charging so dollar for dollar I think IC is a better deal but I must say I really like hanging out at the Ritz.
