“Amazing, Amazing, Amazing”

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa

We stayed at the Grand Wailea June 2-6 for an awards ceremony for my work. This was the second time I have stayed at the Grand Wailea and it is nothing short of amazing. The rooms were large, and comfortable. We had two queen beds and there was a chaise lounge for reading in the room. The bathroom had a bathtub big enough for a family, separate shower, very large bathroom and huge closet. We never heard anyone above us or next to us and our room was very quiet. We ate at the hotel almost the entire time. We were on business and so the meals were served to us in groups but was great. I traveled with my 9 year old son and my husband and they were also very impressed. Being from Phoenix, I am use to hotels with great water parks, but the Grand Wailea is right up there. However, with that being said understand that it is expensive. One morning I got two lattes and a cup of milk for $16. Keep in mind this was an espresso machine and not a person making the latte! The important thing to know about this hotel and Maui in general is that it is expensive. If you understand this going in, then you have no problem spending it. The beach itself is warm, and usually calm. There are no shells on this beach, however you can swim out a ways to snorkel. I highly recommend going to the beach in the morning and spending the afternoon at the pools when the ocean is a little more ruff. If you are a traveler that has a hard time spending money and goes away from the hotel to do tour things, I might suggest looking elsewhere. The Grand Wailea should be a destination.

“Pricey but terrific”

This was our first stay at the Grand Wailea, and we liked everything about it. Beautiful setting, attractive rooms and lobby, great beach and extremely fun swimming pools and waterslides--perfect for kids. The staff was uniformly helpful, too. Downsides? Well, the cost--the rooms were so expensive we could only stay 3 nights here. And incidentals, from breakfast coffee to the $25 resort fee, add up, too. But it was worth it.

“Wonderful Property”

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa

My husband and I just returned from one week at the Grand Wailea. We really loved this hotel. The pools are spectacular - we intend to return with our children. There are several slides, a tarzan swing, and loads of excitement for kids around the big pool. We hung out in the adult pool which is the main pool - fabulous and made even better
by the friendly service of Joseph, a waiter.

The beach behind the hotel is perfect - lots of chairs, you can rent umbrellas, and the water is not too wavy, just right!

Food at the resort was awesome - we did not have a bad meal. Room service was delivered on time with friendly smiles. We had our breakfasts set up on our lanai, and that was a real treat. Our room was large and clean. The bathroom has a seperate shower/bathtub, and a seperate area that contains the mini-bar and vanity. Lots of closet
space, too.

I brought my lap top, and found the internet service to be consistently good and cheap ($14.95 per day.)

The lay-out of this hotel is HUGE - so be sure to request a room that is close to the pools or gardens. I think if you were staying in the back area the hike to the water and main areas would be too much. Housekeeping is slow to get to the rooms - our room was not serviced until turn down every day. they do a great job, but our room was a mess all day. (Not too big of a deal because we spent our days outside.)

I would recommend this hotel to just about anyone - the weather is flawlessly perfect in Wailea. One cab driver told us that Wailea is the driest part of the island - our times before in Kannipali were met with frequent but short rain storms. We thought this hotel especially appeals to families because of the pools, beach, variety of restaurants, and size. Another nice touch was the lei greeting upon arrival - very nice touch!

This is a wonderful property!!

“Mixed review from a GWR longtimer”

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa

We have stayed at this hotel close to a week each summer for 7 years in a row. The hotel has a beautiful location and grounds with a great pools for the kids. We are resort members as well as Hilton Honors Diamond level. However, it seems over the years as the resort has changed management (now owned by Hilton) it is not holding steady, or getting better but it is going slowly down hill.

This trip they put us in the worst room that we have ever stayed in at this hotel. We asked to have our room changed but they would not/could not do it. The room looked dirty- dirty grout around the tile, moldy picture frame in the bathroom, peeling wallpaper and a musty smell to the room. The room overlooked the parking lot and was not a garden view as described when we booked it. The hotel is also buiding residences across the street and this room received all the construction noise. It woke the kids up every morning.

Even though the pool is great, it is hard to find a chair at the pool unless you are at the pool when it opens. Although this is a small thing, we do not like the stress of circling the pool waiting for someone to give up their chair so we can sit. This problem will likely get worst when the folks from residences across the street begin to use the property.

It also seems that over the last several years the staff at the hotel have become less friendly and less trained. This resort was a great place- it fact the best we have ever been too. But now it seems the resort needs spruce up the rooms and better train the staff especially since this is a very expensive resort and its customer's expectations are high because of the price they are paying.

“Loved our suite”

My fiance and I came to Maui to get married. We had enough points for a free regular room for the week, but at the desk they asked us if we wanted to be upgraded and he pointed to the room rates for the $6500 suite. Of course we said yes, I don't know why or how but we took it! The room was fantastic. Huge rooms and a large balcony over looking the chapel and ocean. There is a private key area upstairs. We love the pools too. Great wedding present!
