Bottomline: A good, inexpensive hotel with a great staff and easy access to San Antonio via highways or the trolley to the Riverwalk. Don't expect a great hotel though.
I booked this property based on the reviews here, and I am not as impressed as I thought I would be. I will say that the staff here is excellent -- some of the best I've seen for lower end hotels. However, the property needs some money invested, and the parking situation is not optimal.
Pluses: The staff! Every front desk person, every person working with breakfast, every housekeeper, and every service/maintenance person I met was top notch. Location is good. The hotel is right off the highway so access to other parts of the city is very good. There is no highway noise. Also, there's no train noise, at least in my room, which is apparently common in San Antonio. The trolley for access to the Riverwalk is right around the corner and very convenient. The Marketplace area is a short walk away, though the area is a little bit sketchy on the way at night.
Disappointments: Pool is very small -- not big enough for swimming laps and smaller than most hotel pools. Workout out room is very small -- more like a closet with three machines and a TV. No weights. Both the pool and the workout area are adequate but not what I expected.
Minuses: The rooms need to be updated, particularly the bathrooms. Mine had peeling paint on the doorframe, stained and broken tiles, a leaky faucet, and fairly dim lighting. The towels are great for exfoliating! The sink area was fine, but the toilet/shower area is showing its age. The walls are fairly thin, and in particular, the people above were stomping about. Since that rarely happens in my hotel stays, it made me think that the floor/ceiling was not as thick as it could be. The main room is acceptable but uninspired -- HUGE, blank walls. Parking later at night is a serious problem. The parking immediately in front of the hotel fills up, and the overflow is all over the place -- this hotel shares the area with a Residence Inn, and it's an absolute rabbit warren of hotel buildings, streets and parking spots. Can be quite confusing.
