We just returned from the El Tropicano. The hotel was wonderful. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool was full of activity with great cuban music playing throughout. The rooms were very nice with soft mattresses and higher thread count sheets. Also, the hotel offers a pillow service where you can select what type of pillow to sleep with! The Tiki Lounge has a great atmosphere with live music at night. Great hotel for the price. We will definitely stay when we return to San Antonio.

The El Tropicano Hotel is in the center of downtown San Antonio on the Riverwalk. The rooms are very clean and updated and the personal service was wonderful. Every staff member was always there to help with any need. There is a superior Fitness Center and a swimming pool that is located at the center of the action. During my stay I a few special requests that were handled with no problems.The food in the resaurant and the morning buffet were excellent and the bar near the lobby was just quaint enough to enjoy a quiet beverage. Parking is located on property and the atmoshere in the hotel had a tropical feel. I felt at home and look forward to another stay soon.

No big deal room, with a lovely view of the AC units overlooking the pool. They advertise this as on the river walk, but that is a stretch, as it is right by the construction people expanding it about 10 feet from the hotel.

The mattress was great, and the pillows were good. Bathroom shower head was coming out of the wall, and the room was constantly humid (no central ac, just a wall mounted unit).

Staff was very helpful and friendly, and it is within a 15 minute walk of downtown.

The best part about this one was the price due to the Wyndham deal. They try to sell you a rip off of a timeshare, but for cheap rooms and free sea world tickets, who cares!

For 50$ a night (from priceline.com), this was a real bargain. Yes, we got a small lousy room near the ice machine. Yes, the air conditioning made the noise of an idling truck. However, it was not hot, so we turned it off. The bathroom is very small, with little counter space, but everything was very clean and in working order (even the kind-of-hard-to-figure-out coffee machine). The hotel has a pool and an adequate fitness center. Even next to the ice machine the hotel itself was quiet. Overall, for the price, quite a bargain. For the standard rate of 134$ a night, I would have been quite unhappy. Self-parking was extra, but at 14$ a day it wasn't too bad. The hotel has access to one of the extremes of the Riverwalk (which is currently being expanded), so if you are tired of walking and don't mind waiting forever, you can get there by watertaxi.
