“Nice Stay, But Wouldn't Return”

Crockett Hotel

The hotel is OK. The rooms are renovated, spacious, and very clean. The location can't be beat - close to the Alamo, the Riverwalk, and the Alamo Dome. The room rate included a free breakfast, which we didn't use so I can't comment on. The room had free high-speed internet, which was convenient. Housekeeping did a great job, and was able to accommodate our schedule and show up when we were not there.

I had a few problems, so I would not return. The beds did not have fitted sheets, so the whole bed got all messed up when you got into it. This made it uncomfortable after a long day of walking around the city. Also, the bar didn't serve any food, so if you are interested in drinks and snacks before turning in, that's not an option. The bar was limited and only served three types of wine, two of which they were out of when we arrived.

“Pleasantly Surprised!”

Crockett Hotel

We just returned from a stay at the newly-renovated Crockett Hotel. I had seen all the terrible reviews, and was very concerned about what we would find upon arrival. We stayed in room 708, the Reiter Suite, which had a very comfortable king sized bed in it. All furniture appeared to be new, as was the carpet and paint. Our room included a refrigerator. Almost an entire wall (vaulted ceilings) was plantation blinds, which (though very attractive) did not keep the room very dark at night, and also caused us to wake up fairly early when the sun rose. Another irritating problem was the hotel's proximity to the Sunset Station. It seems the trains come in and out of this station all night, at what appeared to be about 10 minute intervals - blowing their whistles loudly for a significant time. Eventually I fell asleep, and was able to sleep through it (thanks to a couple of Tylenol PM!). You might ask for a room on the opposite side of the hotel to attempt to reduce the train noise. The location of the hotel is very good, and it is a short easy walk to the Alamo and then to the RiverWalk. It is also very close to the RiverCenter mall. Check in and check out was fast and flawless, and the staff we encountered were friendly enough. All in all, a very good stay with the only issues as mentioned above. FYI, we are pretty discriminating travelers, and were debating back and forth between giving the Crockett a chance and just staying at the Hyatt on the RiverWalk.

“Crockett something Davey could be proud of.”

Stayed at the Crockett in December, between Christmas and New Years. The front desk staff was polite and helpful, and when we got to our room, I was pleased to see that the windows opened directly onto the gardens of the Alamo. The bed was comfortable, and the room neat, clean, and nicely appointed. And, since I have broad shoulders, I was
very happy to find that the hotel supplied extra pillows in the closet, without having to ask for them.

The coffee for the coffee maker was a bit weak, but, when you consider, I like mine strong, most people would like it. The keycard system for both rooms and elevators made my wife feel much more secure.

My only complaint would be the Landmark Cafe on the first floor. It was only open for a continental breakfast, and certain people (such as diabetics and hypoglycemics) cannot eat the high carb stuff they had, so we had to go out for meals. But, that was okay, we got to experience more of San Antonio's Alamo area charm.

All in all, I truly enjoyed the three nights there. Even Ernie's Bar was nice, newly remodelled, and the bar tender was friendly and competent. I recommend the Crockett highly.

the hotel was a disappointment, shabby room, pathetic breakfast, the bar was never open for our entire stay. the pool advertised was across the road at the menger hotel (now thats a hotel) the only good thing was the honesty of the young waitress who looked after my expensive camera after i left it in the dining room one morning. lastly the lift was always out of order

“Great location”

I loved the location, which is across the street from the Alamo. Across another street is a nice mall. It is just a few blocks away from the Riverwalk. You could spend several days in this hotel, and not need to drive anywhere, because you can walk to numerous attractions, restaurants, and shops. The staff was always friendly. The rooms were pretty basic, but definitely clean.
