“Great Service, Great Location , Great Beds, BUT...”

The Westin Riverwalk

We traveled to SA for a weekend get away and normally stay at Drury Properties, but came across this great deal for the Westin so we decided to give it a try. Man we were blown away!

Check in was not until 3 pm of course but we needed a map to locate the Children's Museum and went to hotel around 11 am to ask for one and they told us we could check in and valet park our car if we liked because it was 4 blocks away. Mike the bellhop was friendly and gave me some great advice.

This was a classy place from the lobby to the room. Awesome environment!

Now here are the BUTS...

Security - They had some but getting to the elevators without being spotted was a no brainer.

Rooms - Awesome bed and nice decor but like a couple of others visitors have stated, they must be lacking a vacuum cleaner in the hotel. And there were a spot where someone spilled something.

Overall, it was a relaxing stay especially for the price we paid and I will be going back...sorry Drury, I will miss the free hot breakfast but that bed and shower was so needed. A classy place.

One last tip...if you valet, which is the smart thing to do, before you checkout, call 30 minutes ahead...trust me!

Question...why do hotels give you 3 bags of coffee and 2 small bags of sugar?

“Great Location”

I stayed at the Westin for a business trip from June 29 - July 3, 2008. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to others. The room was nice and bed was comfortable. The staff was helpful when I needed a recommendation or assistance with a package. I liked that they opened the door for me each time I entered or exited. The location was great - an easy walk to the Convention Center and also to local restaurant/attractions like the Hard Rock Cafe and Howl at the Moon.

The only concern I had was about housekeeping. I was the only person staying in the room yet each day, more shampoo etc was left for me. They could have saved them. Also, in an effort for conservation, there is a nice note in the room regarding re-use of the linens and towels. I was more than willing to use the same towels (and bed sheets) all week, so I faithfully hung them up each morning but somehow, they were replaced anyway. I found that odd.

I also took advantage of the fitness room. It was small and a bit muggy but I liked that they had TVs for all the treadmills so I could watch the morning news while I ran.

We stayed two nights in San Antonio. The first night, at the Westin, and the second at the Marriott. The Westin was fantastic. Our room was nice, the bed was wonderful and the service was great. we'd definitely stay here again.

“Disappointed in Housekeeping and other Staff”

The Westin Riverwalk

Jun 26, 2008

The Westin Hotel was in a great location and has a great charm to offer. However, the housekeeping staff should be supervised better for how they clean rooms. For the first 2 days, we tipped the housekeeper in advance to make sure we received proper attention. However, the floors in our room were NEVER vaccuumed. We had some crumbs in the floor from a sandwich. We asked one of the staff members on the floor to please get our room vaccuumed as Housekeeping had already been in the room but did NOT vaccuum the floor. He said he would take care of it. We continued our stay in the room for 2 more nights, the floors were still never vaccuumed. I could have almost given an excellent review until I realized that all they did was take the money and still did not do their job. I find this dishonest!

“Let down by housekeeping”

The Westin Riverwalk

When looking for somewhere to stay in San Antonio, we decided on a place by the riverwalk and seeing a Westin there, were happy to go with one of our favourite brands, safe in the knowledge that we'd be comfortable. Sure enough, that heavenly bed was just what was needed after a long transatlantic flight and lengthy connections - but arriving at almost 1am, jetlagged and thirsty, our social skills were challenged when the desk clerk wanted to chit chat about emigrating to Europe (bless her)

We were disappointed with this Westin, however, and like a previous reviewer, felt that it was the housekeeping service that let it down. Not only were things not replenished (coffee, tea, bathroom amenities) the armchair was broken and the shower sounded like the Queen Mary coming into port! Heaven help the people next door who were woken by our showering at 6am - I can only hope they complained as loudly as we did.

My complaints/comments were dealt with seriously and with authority by a great reception clerk, who addressed each of my quibbles and offered compensation in the form of vouchers and a reduction on our bill. What we really wanted, however, was for these issues to be resolved - we were staying for 4 nights and really did hope for that quiet shower and some early morning coffee!

It was not to be however. Clearly the housekeeping standards are not as rigorously maintained as we expect and sadly, this Westin will always be "that one which never got it right" for us. As we checked out, we spoke to the same member of staff who had dealt with our niggles a couple of days earlier. Once again, she addressed the issues, offered money off, points on our frequent flier account etc. but agreed with us - what we really wanted was the service we'd booked and paid for, and that simply wasn't there.

Incidentally, as another reviewer has pointed out the location of this hotel is great - it's on the quieter stretch of the Riverwalk, only a short walk away from the noisy, party atmosphere if that's what you're after, but for the rest of us, ideal! The public rooms are comfortable and airy and it appears that access to the Riverwalk and the downstairs restaurant and coffee shop is being revamped - the current steps/small lift situation is inadequate in my opinion.
