“Like having your own home in New Mexico”

Rancho Jacona

Jun 14, 2008

Our most recent stay at Rancho Jacona was as magical as always. We have been staying there for 20 years and find the beauty of the casitas, gardens, and views to the mountains food for our souls. Do not worry about the twenty minute drive into Santa Fe - just consolidate the things you want to do in town. As we drive in and out of town we enjoy the views of sky, mesa, mountain and pinon pines and Rancho Jacona's location has encouraged us to explore the Pueblos of Santa Clara and San Ildefonso, to visit Bandelier on a regular basis and puts you very close to the beginning of the high road to Taos - a trip into the small villages of Northern New Mexico. The owners of Rancho Jacona have thought about your every need and take great care of the casitas, providing a fully equiped and lovely home to enjoy during your visit. The pool is in a beautiful setting and during hot summer days is very refreshing. There are animals to entertain children and adults alike ( goats, peacocks, burros, rabbits) and the morning birdsong is magnificent.

My husband and I have been staying at Rancho Jacona for many years. It was an automatic choice for me as a teacher to book their lodging when I took a group of students to Santa Fe both in 2006 and 2008. Anna helps in ways "beyond the call of duty". The entire staff is friendly and very accommodating. The views are spectacular to go with the gardens and even the interior of the homes available for rent. Did you hear me say "homes"? That is what Jacona is a "home away from home." We love it and highly recommend it to all. Kathleen

“A Rural Base for Enjoying Santa Fe, New Mexico”

We have stayed at Rancho Jacona during weeks at the Santa Fe Opera for seven or eight summers. It is built around a hacienda on a Spanish land grant within the Pojoaque Reservation north of Santa Fe, going back as many years as memory runneth. Some of the units are modernized out-buildings with very thick walls and roofs (which we prefer), but more are of contemporary adobe construction with swamp coolers. All the units we have stayed in are clean, well-maintained, and have kitchens. There is an outdoor swimming pool. There are pettable farm animals, roaming peacocks, fresh eggs, and a select library of books and videos. Some of the guests enjoy walking along the quiet county highway and along the river which abut the property.

Rancho Jacona is within easy driving distance of Santa Fe itself, Los Alamos, Ghost Ranch, and several traditional Mexican
restaurants and Indian casinos.

But what makes Rancho Jacona particularly enjoyable is its indomitable proprietress, Anna J. Orde, who is very obliging and runs a tight ship. She and her husband are people we have come to consider among our friends in New Mexico.

“A Little Piece of Eden”

We had a wonderful Labor Day holiday at Rancho Jacona. It is one of the few places we have stayed that felt like home--we did not want to leave. We took our two Corgi dogs, who just loved visiting with the ranch animals (on leash, of course). The casitas are relatively private. We enjoyed the pool, walks in the countryside, watching videos at night which are free for checkout at from the owners, and admiring this historical property. We explored the countryside north of the ranch for hiking, dining, shopping, and visits to the hot springs. We did not go to Santa Fe even once. This is a little piece of Eden. We are going back for Christmas!
