We stayed here for two weeks in March. We previously stayed at the Resortquest Waikiki Beach Tower and loved it, but decided to spend less this time and try something else. We liked Resortquest, and wanted 2 bedrooms, so we chose the Sunset, paying $225/nt with the Entertainment book.
When I booked the room, I did not realize (my mistake, I admit) that the bedding configuration would be two twins and a double. I assumed it would be a queen. So when we got there and saw how small the bed was, we asked it there were any other configurations available. They said we could move from the 14th floor to the 6th floor to get a queen/king config. So we did. Big mistake. The room was right above the recreation deck, so there was no privacy in the bedrooms. The curtains had to be closed at all times or people could look right up inside. Also, this room was so run down it was unbelievable. The curtains had black stains all over them, the bathroom faucet was so corroded it looked horrible, and in general...it was awful.
We went to the Beach Tower to see if we could switch but they were fully booked, as was the Embassy Suites (Spring break). When we inquired at the desk about the refund policy, they offered us another room, with the original bedding configuration, on the 32nd floor. So, we moved again.
This room was somewhat better - fabulous view, no stains on the curtains. We ended up putting the kids in the double, and we took the twin beds. The beds were brutal - you could actually see the bed sagging. The bathroom faucet leaked out the back so we had to have a cloth in behind to stop our stuff on the counter from getting wet. The kitchen drawers felt like they'd fall out in your hands. The floor in the living area and bedroom actually sloped noticeable toward the kitchen. Anything on the living room table actually rolled off.
I can't blame management for these problems - they were very pleasant and accomodating with our requests. But what it comes down to is the units are very run down, and need updating - even new faucets would be helpful! I didn't feel we got good value for $225 a night. I'd rather pay $100 more/night at the Beach Tower for the better service (twice daily maid service, free valet parking, free beach items, free internet), better location, and accomodations twice the size, or try the Embassy suites for about $60 more per night for a one bedroom but with breakfast and evening reception included.
I guess it's all a matter of personal opinion and preferences, but that's mine. Next time we'll go somewhere else.
