My wife was attending a conference at the Honolulu convention center, and we booked at this Sheraton basically due to the price and reasonable location. (It is not close to the convention center, but this conference was running a shuttle between the hotels. It would be about a 20 minute walk to the convention center.)
I don't have anything really bad to say about it, but I don't have anything really good to say either. The location is very convenient to Waikiki Beach, shopping and dining. The hotel itself is a pretty basic business type hotel. It is across the street from the beach. From our balcony, we could see a sliver of ocean between the other hotels closer to the beach. The rooms were clean and the staff was polite.
The main negative I'd say is that they really seem to nickel and dime you for everything. For a business oriented hotel that was about $175 a night, charging for WiFi seemed stingy to me. There were some public internet terminals in the lobby, but they were usually occupied, and it's just not the same as being able to use your laptop.
What seemed even more ridiculous was the $3/day charge to use THE ROOM SAFE. There's just no excuse for that. I have stayed in hotels before where you had to pay for internet access, but never for the safe. That just strikes me as gouging, and I socked away my valuables in the sock drawer instead of playing along.
I would not stay here again unless I had Sheraton points to cash in, or all other affordable hotels were booked up. We attended a couple of functions at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and it was much nicer for only slightly more per night. Based on talks with other people from the convention, if we did it again, we would stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Ala Moana, or Westin Moana Surfrider (although the Westin would likely have been out of our price range)
It's not bad... but there are better choices. If you get a good deal on it, it's a decent home base to do things around Hawaii, but you will not find yourself spending time on the hotel grounds like you might at the Hilton or Westin which have their own beach areas.
(Parking was $20/day which did not seem unreasonable for the middle of Honolulu.)
