“Breathtaking!”

My husband and I went to Santorini in June on our long over-due honeymoon, after being in London for about 10 days. I researched Santorini a lot and chose Xenones Filotera, and I was so nervous that it wasn't going to meet my expectations! But it was so wonderful!! We were so thrilled when we first got there! We had asked for West facing views, and Fotis told us that he had upgraded us to a bigger suite, with even better views. The suite was clean and just wonderful! The views are so overwhelming, I truly think we had the best views on the whole island! The hotel was very well maintained and clean, and Santorini itself was wonderful! It was like night and day, from London! Very quiet and relaxing.

We ordered breakfast every night, and in the morning, it would be delivered to our private outdoor table. The food was great! The crepes with chocolate and bananas are awesome, and the hot chocolate is the best I have ever had in my life! There was something so exhilarating about waking up in the early morning, and feeling the cool ocean breeze on you as you stare out at the VAST expanse of blue ocean and blue sky, while you eat your breakfast. At night, it does get quite chilly, since its all ocean front, so bring some sweaters! And definitely rent a car, Fotis can help you with that. It was pretty cheap, and we drove everywhere up and down the island about 3 out of the 4 days. Be warned, the driving is crazy! The roads are really narrow and winding, and there are a ton of cars on the road in Fira! We accidentally ran a yield sign, almost slammed into the side of a cop car, and he just smiled and yelled "No problem", and drove off.

The only bad thing about this hotel is that the pool was not heated and the jacuzzi was never on (or warm). I don't mind, since I don't really swim, but it was definitely disappointing. Oh, and the restaurant next door, Iris, has the worst calamari I've ever had, and really small portions of souvlaki, so don't bother eating there, eat in Fira instead! But definitely go there after dinner for coffee, since the views are perfect!

The 4 days we were in Santorini will always stay in my memory, and I will always be in love with the place!!

“Lovely hotel -- great view”

We stayed at two different hotels on Santorini. Xenones filotera was the supposedly the "lesser" of the two, but we enjoyed it more than the other more expensive hotel where we stayed in Oia. The hotel itself is lovely, clean, and quiet. The only thing you need to know is that you'll want to rent a car to move about the island if you stay here. It is in Imerovigli which is just north of the main city, Fira. There is bus transportation if you're willing to wait a while. The breakfast brought to your room each morning is fantastic!!! The gym is joke. We didn't use it, but would have used it had it had more to offer. The lobby offers complimentary internet access from one computer.
***Don't eat at the restaurant next door to the hotel called Iris!! It has a great view, but terrible food.***
Nick's Taverna in Fira has great Greek food and is value priced. We ate there two nights in a row!

“great and relaxing and away from the touristy mess”

Xenones Filotera

Jul 4, 2006
7/7 found this review helpful

We stumbled upon Filotera at a travel agency located in the ferry port. We were skeptical, but desperate as the island was full of honeymooners and many top spots were sold out. We were pleasantly surprised. Very helpful staff, the best view of the caldera/sunset on the island. Nice clean air conditioned rooms. Nice mix of Americans and other nationalities. Great breakfast delivered to your room right on time and with a friendly smile. The manager even drove us in his personal car to the port to catch our ferry when no taxis were available. Great value for money, considering the inflated prices on Santorini compared to the other Cycladic islands. Filotera is located about 10 minutes (walking) north of Imeroviglia on a thankfully quiet stretch away from the tourist mess of central Fira.

“Very Relaxing Break”

Xenones Filotera

Just got back from Xenones Filotera, where my girlfriend and I spent a week relaxing in the Sun. The Hotel has wonderful views across the caldera, the staff are fantastic and the breakfast (included in the price) is really nice to. In short a very nice place to unwind. Fotis the manager is cool and will help out wit anything you need.

As for the area- it is quieter than the south of the island, although you can reach it by car in 30 mins. North you have Ioa (spelling might be wrong) which is very expensive but worth a visit. The real gem in the area (if you are into the food) is the port that is 10 mins past Ioa- simply keep driving and head down a windy road until you can go no further. There they serve great fresh seafood.

In a sentence, very relaxing, quite expensive island, great hotel...well worth a visit.

“Very nice hotel”

Even though there are some amazing hotels, at higher prices, in Santorini, I found this one to be really nice and quaint. The rooms are pretty sparse, but they are large and have a nice patio where breakfast is served for you each morning. The rooms were very clean and a robe and slippers are waiting upon your arrival. The view from our room overlooked the caldera and it was beautiful each day. The pool and the poolside area was the beautiful.

I found the food to be really good. It is not a lot but it is something to get the day started. I recommend the yogurt with nuts and honey. It was great!

The location of the hotel is in Imerovigli, so it is not in walking distance of Fira or Oia, unless you want a long hike. There is a bus for 1 Euro that can get you there. We rented a four-wheeler and that was a lot of fun to get around on in Santorini.

The front desk staff at the hotel was pretty helpful when we needed them. They helped us to rent a recreatinal vehicle and a boat tour of the caldera. They also have internet access for guests.

Overall, the hotel was nice but being in Santorini made me forget about the hotel. The island is amazingly beautiful and the sunsets are to die for. I would stay at this hotel again in a heart beat. I do recommend it and visiting the island all-together.
