I am a Greek-American living in Canada. We decided to go to Santorini as a mini-vacation (4 days) from our main stay in Athens. We decided on Santorini, since we had friends visiting that had never been to Greece and though Santorini would depict the beauty of the Greek islands. I found out about this hotel through Trip Advisor and after reading comments left by others.
Boy, were we impressed with this hotel, the staff and the service! I have stayed in 3 seperate hotels in Santorini and by far this is the best. I believe in strong customer service, something we received from Fred, the owner, and his staff. The hotel price was reasonable compared to other luxury hotels with a view of the caldera. The hotel is located on the highest point of the island in Imerovigli and the view is just breathtaking. We stayed in the honeymoon suite on the first floor. The room was very clean, immaculate and had it's own charm, decorated in antique furniture owned by the owner's grandmother. Our friends stayed in the Deluxe Honeymoon suite on the second floor and their room was decorated a little bit differently, still maintaining its own unique charm. Of course, they went ga-ga over the view and the private third balcony.
Every morning there was a continental breakfast with fresh fruits, coffee, boiled eggs, varieties of breads, croissant, fresh squeezed OJ. It was quite filling! We would take our breakfast, sit by the pool and enjoy our view.
Fred, the owner, ensured that we were comfortable and recommended places and restaurants to visit. While I realize that these are locations he was probably promoting, I am glad that he did recommend these restaurants since they were affordable, good quality food and a place where the locals hang out. I did not want to be caught in any tourist traps. Fred also went out of his way, driving us - in his own car - to the main town when there was a disagreement with a local rent a car place. He provided small appetizers and champagne (we paid for this of course) for our first night at the hotel, while we admired the beautiful sunset.
I don't know about your preferences, but even though the price was high by my standards (that's what you pay in Santorini), it was all worth it. Every penny of it.
Now, the final word of caution. This is not like a chain hotel - ex: Fairmont, Hyatt, etc that you might see in USA or Canada. This hotel has it's own charm and design. You have to be willing to adapt to the local way of living on Santorini - things are relaxed, non stressed, very laid back. Enjoy your time there!
