“For golfers”

Mercure Omaha Beach

3 of 5 stars
los angeles
Jun 9, 2008

It was my mistake in believing that the hotel had some connection with the Normandy beaches. Despite its name, the Mercure Omaha Beach hotel is not on Omaha Beach. If you are a golfer, this is your hotel. If you are interested in the Normandy beaches, find a hotel in Bayeux as your base. You can see the Cathedral and Tapestry.
Rooms were reasonably priced but very small; dinner was mediocre and expensive, and we did have the added humor of dealing with an arrogant waiter.

“Recommended hotel, great location”

Mercure Omaha Beach

4 of 5 stars
Chicago, Illinois

One night stay. Did not golf. Location is about 10 mins from Bayeau and Omaha beach. The grounds are stunning. The rooms are super clean, bath super clean. Rooms have balcony, views over the pool. We chose not to eat here but in the small town center. Most shops etc. are closed, but there were a small selection of eats available. We went to one tucked down a side road, and it was excellent and affordable. We found the hotel food to be expensive, but I am certain the food probably stands up to the price, as the place was packed. Staff was polite. Great bed and good water pressure in the shower. Overall, thumbs up.

What this hotel lacks in elegance is overshadowed by the fact it is in the absolute best location to tour all of the normandy beach/WW II attractions. The hotel has two sections, one older, one newer. Try to stay in the newer section. The staff are multilingual and very helpful. Breakfast is very good also. If you enjoy a good walk, stroll to the cliffs overlooking the ocean via the golf course trail. You'll also find a WWII bunker their overlooking the town.

“Really nice hotel on a gorgeous setting”

My mother and I stayed at this hotel for one night (7/24/07) as a part of a two-week long guided tour of France.

This was probably our favorite hotel during the trip. The hotel is located on a golf course, relatively near to the sea, and therefore it has just the loveliest setting. Lots of flowers, green grass, view of the sea, etc.

There is an outdoor pool at the hotel, which I didn't go in, but it seemed really nice. There are restaurants on the grounds, a store, and a nice bar too.

The room we stayed at was actually apart from the main hotel, although it was very easy and convenient to get to. I think it was handicap accessible, so everything was very spacious. Plus it was clean and bright. Overall, a really nice place.

“Great Staff”

A young, energetic staff keeps this hotel going strong. From the concierge to the wait staff, all are very strong and customer oriented. I found them very attentive, even to the point of being able to render first aide and help save someone who was choking on a bite of food. Thank you Arnaud. As far as the hotel, it is a strong 3, low 4 star. The only fault I could find is stairway and hallways are a little tight. The swimming pool is nice and my daughters enjoyed it very much. There are 2 bars. The food in both restaurants is very good but I recommend the cheaper club house (brassierre) ala cart menu. A walk into the small, charming town of Port en Bessin takes about 15 minutes. And if you are a golfer, the golf course next to the hotel is beautiful. A picture of a happly, visiting Arnold Palmer tells all. But the main show in the area is the DDay beaches, which this hotel is basically in the middle of all of them. Lastly, there is Bayeaux nearby with the tapestry and tons of little shops and very good restaurants. You cannot go wrong with this hotel -- the people are nice and willing to help and go the extra distance -- and they speak good English and are willing to help with the French if you prefer.
