“Great Base for the D-Day Beaches”

Mercure Omaha Beach

We stayed here as a base for visiting the landing Beaches in Normandy on a bed & breakfast basis.

We had a spacious room which was in good condition with a double bed and one single, it also had a small balcony with two chairs which overlooked the golf course. The weather was hot when we stayed so we made use of the rooms air-conditioning though I believe that not all rooms have this option.

We used the outdoor swimming pool which was in good condition and heated too but unfortunately did not have time to use the golf course, health suite or gym though they all looked in great condition.

Breakfast was in a continental buffet style and was always well stocked.

The hotel was situated in the countryside above the village of Port en Bessein which meant that it was very quiet and if you did not require to eat in the hotel restaurant would need to travel out to find a restaurant. We had our car and managed to find some nice restaurants which were all within a 10-15 minutes trip from the hotel.

In some parts of the hotel the decor looked slightly tired but overall we thought that this hotel was good value for money and also a great base for exploring the landing beaches and associated museums and would certainly use it again.

“Quiet, Relaxing, & a convenient D Day base”

Mercure Omaha Beach

Stayed in late July 2006 for 3 days as a side trip added on to my business trip to LeHavre. Definetly off the main highway, very quiet, & private. Beutiful country side surrounds the hotel & off course the golf course is attached. Walk a few holes in the late evening, sipping a cocktail before dinner, and you feel relaxed as ever. Several holes overlook the countryside & Omaha Beach can be seen in the horizon.

Staff was very friendly & spoke adequate English (I am from USA). Most guests were from Europe (England, Sweeden, France, etc). Plenty of free parking. Pool looked inviting. The restaurant overlooks the golf course & was very good for dinner; had good local fish & a good filet of beef. The lounge also services the golf patrons & has a nice ouside patio overlooking the 18th hole.

The best part about this hotel is that it is extremely convenient to the D Day sites. It is close enough to go to a few sites, come back to the hotel for a bathroom break or quick rest & go back for more. You have sites to the south & sites to the north.
I took the train to Bayeaux & rented a car. The hotel is 10 minutes from Bayeaux. I would definetly recommend seeing the D Day sites by car by yourself as opposed to bus or van tours. The sites are easily found by the free maps (get at the front desk) and you have the freedom to come and go as you please.

There may be cheaper hotels, but for the price, I thought it was a mild bargain. A full breakfast is included in the price. Of course other meals are extra. I really enjoyed my stay.

“Quiet and refined”

Mercure Omaha Beach

Stayed one night on a business trip. I had booked on the Accor website at the standard rate and was lucky to be upgraded to one of their deluxe rooms as the hotel was full. Rooms are in 1 or 2 story buildings around a swimming pool and the golf course. Hotel in the country, extremely quiet area, no traffic. Nice and refined atmosphere with that little extra style and comfort. My room was big, nicely decorated, bathroom was excellent and modern. Breakfast ok. international atmosphere with lots of British and American customers. I would definitely recomment the hotel, especially if you can afford the more comfortable rooms which are really nice.

“Enjoyed our overnight at the Mercure Omaha Beach”

Mercure Omaha Beach

We stopped here for an overnight after we visited Omaha Beach. This place is rather out in the country and we saw the Brittany spectacle eyed cows coming out of the barn from their milking as we drove in. They look like they have bangs at the top of their head between their horns.
I did not have time to use the pool here but it is very nice and clean looking. We had a great evening meal in a beautiful restaurant that is separate from the hotel. The meal started with a mix of cucumbers, tomatoes, minced carrots, beets, and corn served with crusty bread. The entre was pork with with fries. Dessert was an apple tart with lemon glaze. It was excellent with perfect presentation.
We had a good sized corner room with windows on two walls that overlooked the golf course. We had a double bed plus two singles.
There is beautiful lavender growing around the buildings and near the pool. Breakfast was served in a delightful smaller room that had yellow tablecloths over the tables.
This is a good area for visiting the Beaches of Normandy and The American Cemetery. Also, the Bayeux Tapestry is only a few miles away. I would definitely visit this hotel again.

“Good Break”

Mercure Omaha Beach

The hotel room was of a reasonable size with a stylish bathroom that was more than adequate for a family of four ( boy aged 7 and girl aged 4). The golf courses are beautiful and well maintained, although the mini golf course's greens were bit poor. The putting greens kept the children happy as did the numerous attractions in relatively close proximity.
The food was of good quality, although the menu was rather limited for children and a little expensive. The staff ( able to converse in English) in the restaurant were very friendly and were quite happy to put up with my school boy french.
It is the type of venue that is ideal for a long weekend, but not an ideal for a longer stay.

Regards

William Emerson
