“Great Staff”

A young, energetic staff keeps this hotel going strong. From the concierge to the wait staff, all are very strong and customer oriented. I found them very attentive, even to the point of being able to render first aide and help save someone who was choking on a bite of food. Thank you Arnaud. As far as the hotel, it is a strong 3, low 4 star. The only fault I could find is stairway and hallways are a little tight. The swimming pool is nice and my daughters enjoyed it very much. There are 2 bars. The food in both restaurants is very good but I recommend the cheaper club house (brassierre) ala cart menu. A walk into the small, charming town of Port en Bessin takes about 15 minutes. And if you are a golfer, the golf course next to the hotel is beautiful. A picture of a happly, visiting Arnold Palmer tells all. But the main show in the area is the DDay beaches, which this hotel is basically in the middle of all of them. Lastly, there is Bayeaux nearby with the tapestry and tons of little shops and very good restaurants. You cannot go wrong with this hotel -- the people are nice and willing to help and go the extra distance -- and they speak good English and are willing to help with the French if you prefer.

“A Good Comfortable hotel”

Mercure Bayeux Omaha Beach

The Hotel Mercure Omaha Beach was a bit difficult to locate. It is a modern, clean well managed hotel located on/about a beautiful golf course. The rooms are quiet, clean and very comfortable with modern ammenities. The hotel has a pool and fitness room. The fitness room consists of a few machines (rowing exercise bike etc.) and a small 'rickety" home gym that was barely functional (for those interested in a real workout - forget it!). The hotel has a nice bar in the lobby and a golf course with restaurant. We dined at the restaurant and were disappointed in the quality and service. It is conveniently located for excursions to the beaches and approx. 12-15 min. from the D Day Museum in Bayeux.

“Difficult to find much wrong really!”

Second stay here, once with wife and children and more recently with a part of 12 golfers. It's a good hotel in a pretty countyside setting. It has excellent facilities with a nice relaxed feel about the place.

Staff are very helpful & friendly and the restaurant is a 10 out of 10. Of the dozens of meals i had in France this was up there with the best - marvellous food and lovely intimate atmosphere (not too pricey - around £20 for three course meal and great wine list)
Also excellent buffet breakfast.

Perfect for a golf break as the course is excellent, also suggest a memorable trip to the American war cemetary overlooking Omaha Beach (5 minutes away)- difficult not to be moved (always quite a few Americans doing the 'Saving Private Ryan tour').

We had Room no4 and those rooms in this coridor had all been refurbed - lovely bathroom etc.

Port En Bessin is a pretty fishing village with around a dozen restaurants

If you want nice accomodation, and to experience the real France this is for you. Pack your clubs and you're really onto a winner.
Although because its a golf hotel think it's more appropriate as part of a golf trip

“Great Base for the D-Day Beaches”

Mercure Bayeux Omaha Beach

3 of 5 stars
Guernsey

We stayed here as a base for visiting the landing Beaches in Normandy on a bed & breakfast basis.

We had a spacious room which was in good condition with a double bed and one single, it also had a small balcony with two chairs which overlooked the golf course. The weather was hot when we stayed so we made use of the rooms air-conditioning though I believe that not all rooms have this option.

We used the outdoor swimming pool which was in good condition and heated too but unfortunately did not have time to use the golf course, health suite or gym though they all looked in great condition.

Breakfast was in a continental buffet style and was always well stocked.

The hotel was situated in the countryside above the village of Port en Bessein which meant that it was very quiet and if you did not require to eat in the hotel restaurant would need to travel out to find a restaurant. We had our car and managed to find some nice restaurants which were all within a 10-15 minutes trip from the hotel.

In some parts of the hotel the decor looked slightly tired but overall we thought that this hotel was good value for money and also a great base for exploring the landing beaches and associated museums and would certainly use it again.

“Quiet, Relaxing, & a convenient D Day base”

Mercure Bayeux Omaha Beach

Aug 24, 2006

Stayed in late July 2006 for 3 days as a side trip added on to my business trip to LeHavre. Definetly off the main highway, very quiet, & private. Beutiful country side surrounds the hotel & off course the golf course is attached. Walk a few holes in the late evening, sipping a cocktail before dinner, and you feel relaxed as ever. Several holes overlook the countryside & Omaha Beach can be seen in the horizon.

Staff was very friendly & spoke adequate English (I am from USA). Most guests were from Europe (England, Sweeden, France, etc). Plenty of free parking. Pool looked inviting. The restaurant overlooks the golf course & was very good for dinner; had good local fish & a good filet of beef. The lounge also services the golf patrons & has a nice ouside patio overlooking the 18th hole.

The best part about this hotel is that it is extremely convenient to the D Day sites. It is close enough to go to a few sites, come back to the hotel for a bathroom break or quick rest & go back for more. You have sites to the south & sites to the north.
I took the train to Bayeaux & rented a car. The hotel is 10 minutes from Bayeaux. I would definetly recommend seeing the D Day sites by car by yourself as opposed to bus or van tours. The sites are easily found by the free maps (get at the front desk) and you have the freedom to come and go as you please.

There may be cheaper hotels, but for the price, I thought it was a mild bargain. A full breakfast is included in the price. Of course other meals are extra. I really enjoyed my stay.
