We stayed at La Creole Beach for 10 days at the end of June and beginning of July. At first we were not impressed but as days passed we began to love the location by the coast with splendid views of the sea approaches to Pointe-a-Pitre and a 17th century fort on the grounds. The service was friendly and polite. Our room was comfortable, very clean and spacious. Importantly, the air conditioning worked well, a must in the hot weather of the island. Breakfast was very good. Other meals in the main dining room were mediocre. The small restaurant by the ocean is much better, though it has a limited menu. We tried the Ouassous (local crayfish) which are kept live in a tank and were tasty though not nearly as meaty as scampi. We visited other hotels in the island and La Creole compared favorably in terms of facilities and location. Its small beach is not our favorite and for that we went to Ste Anne, some 15 km East of the hotel. There is also a nice beach in Gossier about 1 Km away. La Creole's central location makes it convenient as a departure point for drives to both Grande Terre and Basse Terre. Many in the staff are conversant in English, though most guests were from francophone countries. French is of course quite useful when driving around to ask directions and go to restaurants and shops in the hinterland.
