Room: basic, reasonably comfortable, bit cramped as we had a cot too. Maids tended to sweep round things and didn't bother to sweep under beds, sofa etc.
Kitchen, as has been said before was very tiny; 2 hotplates, tiny draining board and chopping board over the sink. fridge didn't hold very much once you had a big bottle of water in it and no cupboard space to store dry foods. Our kettle also decided to short out late one night and tripped the entire electrics for the room, but after a phonecall to reception they sent out an electrician and we were given a replacement kettle from one of the night maids.
We were in room 2127 in Sunflower house which was on the ground floor right beside the pool. My only complaint (and its more of a suggestion really) is that the veranda has no gate and therefore no way of preventing small children from making a break for it. We have 3 children (age 8, 3 and nearly 2) and the 2 wee ones kept trying to escape to the pool every 5 minutes. So some kind of safety gate would make all the difference.
After reading some of the reviews on here before we went, I was expecting to be woken at the crack of dawn every morning by hyperactive entertainment staff - its nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. Yes they have huge speakers, and being so close to the pool and stage we did hear it, but it wasn't unbearable by any stretch of the imagination. They didn't tend to make much noise until 10am and if you close the patio doors in the evening, you can hear very little noise from the evening entertainments.
The entertainment staff deserve a medal, the are on the go morning, noon and night and their enthusiasm never wanes. The songs do get a bit monotonous after hearing them every day for a fortnight, but hey - its a holiday!
The public areas of the hotel itself are beautifully kept, everything is shiny and clean. Reception staff are on the whole very helpful and pleasant (with 1 or 2 exceptions) They will exchange money and travellers cheques. We were charged 2 euros commission for every 100 euro travellers cheques.
I also read a few reviews before we left that mentioned the pool being closed due to "lazy parents not changing their kids". Now I was really worried about this as our middle child has bowel problems and has movements several times a day, we can never predict how loose or not they are going to be. But we took loads of huggies little swimmers and had no accidents at all. The pool was closed on 2 occassions over our fortnight, the first time it was closed from lunchtime til the following morning and the second time was from afternoon until the following morning on our last day. Neither of which were down to us thankfully
We didn't venture very far from the hotel complex as it was just too stressful with the kids. But there is plenty on the complex to keep them occupied and we didn't even make use of the kids clubs.
Because of the ages of our kids they would have had to go to 2 different kids clubs, and the little one could have gone to the creche. BUT they are all at different times so we could only pack one off at any time. And the times were different every day so it was a nightnmare trying to remember which club was when - needless to say I just didn't bother.
There is a wee park for up to 12's beside the creche, and even when the creche isn't open there is a large soft play area for wee ones that you can use at anytime (the a/c is fantastic in there).
I would love to go back here again next year, and I think the only thing I would do differently would be to hire a car so we could get around more
