“Best choice in Tlaquepaque!”

La Villa del Ensueno Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Santa Barbara, California
Oct 7, 2007

This is an intimate, charming B & B in a suburb of Guadalajara, Mexico. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the main square and where all the wonderful shopping is. The hotel which once was an old hacienda, is nicely decorated and has an outside sitting area along with patios, a library for quiet relaxation and two pools. We had a good experience with our reservation, our check-in and the staff was friendly. It's a bonus that they speak English! The whole place has character.

There are 28 rooms. We stayed in the Jr. Suite #9 the first time and #8 the second time. Room #9 is right over the pool so if there is a large group and kids in the pool it would not be very private or quiet. We preferred #8 for it's large deck and privacy. As in most all of Mexico, the beds were very firm. The rooms were a bit sparse, but clean, with simple furnishings. There was not much bright lighting that we are used to in the US, but it was adequate. The bathrooms in the junior suites are good size and has nice tile work along with a lighted magnifying mirror. Upon our arrival there was a wonderful assortment of fresh fruit for us in the room.

Across the street is where breakfast is served, more rooms and another pool. The breakfast was more than adequate and you can order anything you want. They will prepare it especially for you.

We will return when we are in Guadalajara again and want to go shopping!!

I stayed four nights with my wife and five year old son. It is a friendly and relaxing environment. The staff is friendly and helpful. The decor is tasteful and has character. It's a nice place to hang out and rest or read a book. There are several very nice areas to lounge peacefully. There are two pools and a spa none of which are heated which is pretty common in Mexico. We also stayed at the Quinta Real which didn't heat their pool or spa either.
It's about a ten minute walk to the center of Tlaquepaque, which is a nice charming town.
The breakfast was not good, but there are lots of good restaurants in Tlaquepaque.

“Beautiful hotel”

If you are headed to Guadalajara for shoppping, there is no better place to stay. The hotel is beautiful and every room is unique and incredible. The staff is excellent, along with the food and drinks. It is a short walk to Telaquepaque, the main shopping district.

We went to the area hoping do some shopping and site seeing. We found out that all there really is to do is shopping. We tried to do some site seeing in downtown Guadlajara. There are some great buildings, but we went on a Sunday and it was so busy you could hardly walk down there. The Tequila Express we heard is a great trip, not only for the tequilla tour, but to see the country side. It is booked out in advance though, so make reservations early.

“excellent accomidations; great staff”

My first trip to Mexico was an unexpectedly grand adventure due to the friendly and helpful staff at the Villa. Most speak some english; three are very fluent. All are most helpful and friendly. I was in a group; we were in and out of each others' rooms, and I am very happy to report that the rooms were extremely clean and well apportioned when we arrived, and stayed that way, through the dilligent efforts of the staff.

The breakfast was varied every day, and each was well prepared and more than adequate in every respect.

The hotel has expanded to 28 rooms, by renovating a property directly across the street from the original location. It now has two pools, a large breakfast/bar area, and wireless internet throughout.

Security is vigilant and consistent, and the employees are very aware of what is going on in the street. Its location in a residential area lends to its quiet, peacful and secure setting. It is good to see the locals checking out what is going on, up and down the block, though.

I am looking forward to my next trip to Guadalahara, and I am very much looking forward to my next visit to the Villa de Ensueno.

    • Liked — very clean rooms and common areas; very friendly and helpful staff
    • Disliked — The sidewalks along the street left a lot to be desired; but it is Mexico, after all
    • Tips/Secrets: — call early to book your reservation, let them know of special needs or desired sightseeing; they have an area guide who will coordinate any trip you wish to take, to see the local attractions.
