“I will never stay there again”

Resort Hotel Genting Highlands

One word... Horrible

We went to Genting for a short getaway over the weekends. By the time we reached the hotel, it was around 4pm. The queue at the check-in counter was very long and we waited for 1.5 hours before we can check in.

We have requested for 2 rooms with 2 queen size bed as four of us will be sleeping in each room. The rooms that they gave us was on the 3rd storey. One of the rooms was fine, with unblocked view. The other room faces the kitchen piping and was really warm. We called the front office to request for a change and they told us that all the rooms were unavailable. Oki.. we do understand their difficulties and did not demand for a change.

As most of the tourist will soak their time in the casino, the rooms are pretty empty during the day time. The hotel will do their during noon time and if you are thinking of taking an afternoon nap in your room. Forget about it. The drilling will give you a terrible headache.

We had some problems with the unblocked view room in the middle of the time. There's a very loud drilling sound and we can hear that the furnitures are being shifted right in the middle of the night. We called the front desk to complain of the noise, the front destk simply just assured us that since there is no renovation going on, we shouldn't be hearing any noise.

When the phone was hung up, the shifting noise continues and the water pipes also started to rattle. We called again, this time round, they tell us it is due to the hot water and maybe the air-con. No one was sent up to check where the noise came from, but they offered to change the room for us. Weird, in the morning when we requested for a change, they told us there wasn't any room.

The funny thing about this changing of the room was, we were told to pack all our things, cleared our room and moved to the new room. But it is quite ridiculous to pack your things which were all over the place in the middle of the night!! We told the front dest that we will just move without moving our things and they refused. We MUST move our things as well!! We gave up the idea and continued to stay in the room.

The noise continued throughout the night and by 5am.. we called up the front desk and demanded to speak to the manager on duty. Their reply was "No manager around".

Sign.. what can I say. I packed my bags early in the morning and vowed never to return.

“Nicely Renovated - Just like a 5 Star Hotel”

I'm happy that this hotel had been renovated recently. Everything from the lobby, lifts to the rooms & bathrooms were beautifully decorated.

The staff were nice too. Maybe because we're Genting Gold card members?

I had stayed in deluxe room & standard MAXIM suite in this hotel:

1) Standard MAXIM suite costs RM1400 per night during shoulder season. But we got it free during my husband's birthday month. Personalised (European or Arabian style) MAXIM suites costs doubled. MAXIM suite check-in were the best as we were guided to a nice lounge with LCD TV, magazines, newspapers and free drinks for us while the staff register us.

One bell boy will stand by your luggage all the time until he brings it up to your room. You'll be greeted whenever a MAXIM staff sees you.

You'll need your room card to enter the floor door after you come out from the lift. This is to provide privacy for the MAXIM guests. There's even waiting area with sofa outside room.

When you enter the room, you'll feel like royalty. Everything was very clean & beautifully design. LCD TV. DVD player, DTS Surround system in the whole room, Complete Mini Bar, Work desk with computers & Free internet access, fax machine, copier, large & comfy beds, Pillow menu for you to choose, dressing table with complete necessities.

The luggage room and changing room were attached to the bathroom & toilet. There is a huge jacuzzi in the bathroom with great views of genting highlands. You can also watch TV or listen to the radio while soaking in the jacuzzi. There is also a walk in shower with glass doors. Modern personal weighing scale & laundry baskets were also provided in the bathroom. There is another door in the bathroom leading to the toilet.

Breakfast were included. You can either have it delivered to your room or enjoy it at the MAXIM lounge at level 1. We decided to have our breakfast at the lounge. It's very relaxing and no time limit as the food was served 24 hours. Just different food at different time. Not many guests during breakfast time as MAXIM rooms are limited so you shouldn't worried of noisy, etc. The staff service were excellent. Although it's a buffet style breakfast, actually a staff will stand by your side and help you with the helpings or help you hold your plate while you chooses your food. You're like a king / queen for the day!

2) On separate occasions, I stayed at the deluxe room. The deluxe rooms smell very new & Modernly designed. There is a make up room on the left once you enter the room. On the left is the new toilet. The toilet concept was nice although there is no bath tub. It has a walk in shower with glass doors. The tiles on the toilet floor and walls are grey color giving it a modern & clean look.

Desk, tables, sofas, TV were also provided and all of it were new. Even the bed, pillows, bed covers, blankets, carpets, door, plaster ceiling were new. I can say it's a NEW experience here. Cos I had stayed at all the hotel in Genting Highlands before. This is the best hotel so far. Even the 5 star Highland hotel loses out.

I'll sure return to Resort Hotel for more sweet memories every time I visit Genting Highlands.

“Nicely Renovated Hotel”

I visit Genting about 2-3 times a year and have stayed in all the hotels there. To put it mildly, the ranking here is not very reflective of the hotels in Genting. The best hotel, Highlands Hotel, is not even reviewed here.

Anyway, we stayed in Resort Hotel from 26 to 29 Dec 07. We had the highest floor (18th floor) and found the room to be spacious and in good condition. Need internet access? Just bring your laptop downstairs and have free acess at Coffee Bean. Need to buy some instant noodles to tie over the late nights? Go downstairs and buy from the convenience store - it operates during normal hours, of course. It's quite centrally located to the casino, theme parks, and numberous food outlets in Genting. Resort Hotel is actually at the mid range between the more pricely Highlands and Genting hotels, and the cheaper Theme Park and First World. My first option is either Highlands or Genting. If not, Resort is my last option. Not Theme Park or First World.

Overall, what you pay is what you get. Don't expect 5-star treatment or room, and you will enjoy your star there!

“Pleasantly surprised”

Resort Hotel Genting Highlands

We, a family of 6, were not able to get reservation in the 5* Genting Hotel at Genting Highlands as part of it was under renovation and other part was heavily booked. Thus we had booked three Doubles at Resort Hotel a 4* property of the same management.
WE arrived, very late around 1 am, but efficiently checked in.
The most pleasant surprise were the rooms. Apparently it have been recently renovated. It were much better than the rooms of Genting Hotel we had stayed 2 years back.
The only black mark was the housekeeping. On one day the maid removed the TV remote from the room without informing us.
On another day complimentary water bottles were not placed.

“Thumbs Up for Resort Hotel”

A very pleasant and happy 2 days 1 night at Resort Hotel, Genting Highland with very quality room. There are many hotels in Genting and I found Resort Hotel to be better than the rest, as the hotel is renovated, therefore all rooms are clean, room facilties are in good working condition and a comfortable bed with nice basic interior.

LOCATION
Located at the top of Genting Highland, sandwiched between all 5 hotels, frankly, I have no idea which building is Resort Hotel, however, with very good signs, one would be able to make it to the reception of Resort Hotel. From where your cable car alights or where your bus drops you off, one can walk to Resort Hotel by following signs. If you are driving, better start your journey early and reach the resort by 11am, bcos carparks are limited at the hotel.

RESERVATION SERVICE
Based on my room reservation experience with the hotel, if you try to reserve a room through the hotel website, the likelihood is you won't get a room on the date of your preference. That's bcos, internet reservation is generally cheaper and it is reserved by public as early as 6 months! What you can do is to make call to the hotel which they do have rooms. Phone reservation is 10-20% more expensive though. Such tip is not published, this is one way to reserve Resort Hotel.

CHECK-IN SERVICE
Check in service has improved tremendously by having a Quematic system. This means, visitors will need to self-service to obtain a check-in printed ticket from a kiosk, you then wait for your ticket number to appear at the reception. This is better than the conventional queueing which can frustrate visitors for having to stand long than 30mins. With the quematic system, one can roughly gauge how long to wait and could just sit at the lounge when the number is called upon.

BEDROOM
Room (double/twin room) is worth mentioning here, as it comes with either a double bedrrom or a twin bedroom. The twin bedroom consist of 2 single beds, each single bed is big enough for 2 persons (reasonably human size, not obese). So if you have 4 persons, do ask for twin bedroom. Anyway, it also depends on availability. The likelihood is you will be given a twin bed (even if there are only 2 persons checking in).

ROOM FACILITIES
Room comes with a standard 21" CRT TV, mini-fridge, digital safe (able to put in a 15.4" laptop), tea/coffee n kettle, shower with nice overhead sprinkler, nice and clean washing basin n modern toilet bowl, writing desk, large mirror attached to wardrobe and a ceiling fan.

ROOM INTERIOR
Room is very cosy and comfortable upon first sight. Views from the 16th floor is very attractive, overlooking the theme park below and to the forest. Room is well decorated with simple wall painting, 2 layer curtains enough to block sunlight, 4 window panes 2 of it able to have small opening of 6 inches wide (to prevent accidents), lightining with good yellow light ambience. Very nice interior for a simple room.

PRICING
Genting Highland's survival depends on tourists. Genting Bhd is self sustaining, that means it isn't funded by the Government, therefore, all its hotel under the name of Genting, including restaurants, themeparks, etc are based on peak and non peak tier pricing. Generally hotel price for Resort Hotel is RM$250 to RM$350. By standard of a 4 star hotel, Resort Hotel's RM$350 is worth paying. You wouldn't wanna stay at First World Hotel or Themepark Hotel.

RATING
My scorecard rating for Resort Hotel is 4/5. If it comes with a heated swimming pool, an open air dinner bbq by the pool or an open-air bar, I would give it 5 star rating.

RETURN TO STAY
Yes, no regrets.

PHOTOS
See attached photos.

HOTEL BUFFET
Very good spread and usually international. Sometimes it's theme-buffet meaning say Xmas = International Western, Hari Raya = Malay style, Chinese New Year = chinese style. It's halal food, so no pork, no lard. Having buffet is expensive especially for family, but it is just slightly more expensive than having a dinner at the restaurants/cafe in Genting shopping centres.

HOTEL & STAFF SERVICE
Polite, courteous and will give an extra mile to make your stay pleasant. They even return my Identity Card which I left it at the reception. Only thing is, checking in is slow, expect to wait 30mins during the weekend. Checking out is as simple as just throw the door cards with the card folder into a box. Newspaper and housekeeping service is up to standard.
