“Nice Hotel, shame about the location”

Aeolos Mareblue Hotel & Resort

Jul 24, 2008

My husband and I who are in our 40's stayed at this hotel in June and although this is a lovely and clean hotel there is nothing much to do during the day or night, unless you go on trips. The evening entertainment is only for the kids, where they play the same music each evening. The nearest resort is Benitses which you can get a bus to for around 1 euro 50. You can buy the tickets at the local suspermarket which is at the bottom of the hotel. The taxi's are quite expensive - it cost us 10 euros to get back even though the journey was not very long, you can walk but it takes about 1/2 hour, which can be dangerous when it's dark as there is not always a kirb to walk on. The food was ok if you like the same kind of thing every night, but there was plenty of it and it was topped up on a regular basis, some of the food is cooked whilst you wait. If you do book any trips do not book to go to Corfu Town as we did, we paid 18 Euros each but found out that you can get there by bus for 1 Euro 50 each, each way. We went on a trip to Paxos/Prada which are two seperate islands and worth a visit, we paid 34 Euros each which was well worth it, you get to go on a luxury cruiser which takes you to Paxos and then on to Prada the only drawback is the travelling, you go from Corfu Town and it takes 2 1/'2 hours to Paxos then another 45 minutes to Prada. Back at the hotel, there are two bars of a night, one is by reception which can get quite busy the other is down by the pool where the kids entertainment takes place. The cocktails are the best drink. There is a self service restaurant on the beach which again the same thing is cooked everyday, pasta is cooked whilst you wait and you do get plenty. Be warned that the hotel is built on a hill and can be hard going when coming back from a day out or a day at the beach. Take a light long sleeved top with you as it gets quite breezy of a night. I would only recommend this hotel if you plan on hiring a car. Avoid the beach on a Sunday as this is when the locals flock to the beach, which is not very big to begin with.

“Hated it”

Aeolos Mareblue Hotel & Resort

Jul 17, 2008

We have just come back form this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. We arrived at midnight and were taken straight to our room which was right at the top of the hill. The views were beautiful, the room was not, it was dirty, the bathroom was really dirty, there was a greasy dirty stain on the floor which after complaining took 3 attempts for them to clean it and it was still as bad. We were shocked as the site we booked it on had it rated as a 4 star hotel, it is certainly not that, maybe a 2 star. We could not get a sunbed round the pool as the Germans put their towels on a night, we tried the beach and again no beds at 9am!!! There was actually a poor family told to get off the beds they were on by a german family as they had reserved them at 6am!! it clearly states in the welcome pack that you cannot reserve beds with towels, try telling the germans that. They even said 'nice try' to the family, the woman was in tears, she said she was going home. The staff were very unhelpful. After 5 days I finally got moved to a room in the main building, the rooms there were of such a higher standard you would think you were in a different place altogether!!!!
We had to leave our room at noon which is fine, but the cleaner knocked on the door at 8.30am, I had just come out of the shower, had the robe on and she said I need the robe?? I said we don't leave till noon, she said she had to have it there and then, I had to take the robe off and give it to her.
The food was always a good selection but on an evening you could not get any cutlery, one waiter said well you all come in at once, I told him that was not our problem, he went off and did not bother getting us any cutlery, my husband went to see the manager to get some, by then our food was cold.
The beach bar was the best place, friendly and always enough for everyone to eat.
All in all I would not advise anyone to visit this hotel, our impression was they do not like the brits, to make a point we cleaned the room completely before we left!!!!
The weather was magnificent, and the views were really outstanding but the place a complete no no.

“3rd Time, and Good Time Had Again”

Aeolos Mareblue Hotel & Resort

Jun 30, 2008

This is the third time we have been to this hotel (on all inclusive basis), and we enjoyed the stay again.

Do not be put off by some of the reports on this website - just accept that 4 star Corfu Hotels are not the same as UK 4 star... having said that, our accomodation was comfortable and clean with ample space for 2. Air conditioning is standard together with small fridge.

The report about the noisy aircraft flights in and out of Corfu Airport is a bit over the top - ok there are flights in and out of Corfu, but they are not noisy, do not fly over the hotel, and this did not bother us.

As others have stated, the hotel is on a hill, and would be an issue for those with walking difficulties. It was not a problem for us.

The food is of a good standard buffet style with plenty of selection - you would have to be very 'picky' not to find something you like.

We stayed a little later in June this year and noticed that the hotel was a little more full than before, but none the less there were no real queues for food or drinks. The fantastic Lagoon pool at the top of the complex was lacking some sun umbrellas, but there were plenty avaialble at the beach.

One night we tried the Paximos fish restaurant in nearby Benitses (2 Euro return on Blue Bus - buy tickets in hotel shop, or shop on the main road) and had a great Fish Platter for Two - great meal at 39 Euro including wine and dessert!

Weather was really hot (minimum of 31 C), but you have the option with the beach or Lagoon pool to cool down in the nearby shaded bar areas and take a drink of course!

I would not bother with any coach pickup from the airport - avoid having to wait for the coach to arrive/setting down others at other hotels, and just get a taxi for 20 Euros (each way). Additionally, I would not bother with any 'taxi vouchers' issued by some travel agents since taxi drivers prefer 'cash only' (with Vouchers they have to try and claim their money back). Just agree the price with the taxi driver before jumping in the car. By Taxi, it takes 20/30 mins or so depending upon traffic/roadworks.

If you have already booked this hotel or about to book it, I am sure you will have a great time as we have done for the last 3 years.

“Almost!!”

Aeolos Mareblue Hotel & Resort

3 of 5 stars

Jun 14, 2008

I have just returned from 2 weeks stay at the Aeolos Beach resort with my husband and 18 month old daughter and have to say that having read some of the reviews before we went we were anxious to say the least. However, we enjoyed our time there its just that it could have been better. The food was pretty awful at the beginning of our stay but as the hotel got busier it did improve, it was more a case of finding something edible rather than being spoilt for choice. The beach restaurant at lunch time serves fresh pasta with ingreidents of your choice which was great for our daughter.
When we arrived we were put in a second storey room which would have been ok except the balcony wood was rotten and almost collasped when we pushed (gently). However, we spoke to the reception staff who moved us the same day in to a bigger room with easier access. The rooms were basic ( as they usually are in Greece) but were cleaned daily and had everything we needed (ie fridge, hairdryer etc!)
The pool was nice although we spent most of our time at the beach, which isn't as bad as some of the other reviews claim. Its not up to caribbean standards but it is clean and had pleanty of sunbeds.
We took a trip to Corfu town one day (tickets must be bought before getting on the bus, either from reception or the supermarket on the road side) which was nice, very cosmopolitan and alot busier than we had anticipated. We got a taxi back which cost 17euros. We also went to Benitses but other than a Chemist and a supermarket there isn't an awful lot there so we caught the next bus back again.
The taxi from the airport cost us 20 euros.
I wouldnt recommend the hotel to anyone with a disability or small child in a buggy due to the hills. However the views across the sea to Albania are some of the best I've ever seen.
The entertainment team did a good job in the evening (although its not really our cup of tea but our daughter tired herself out at the kids disco each night.)
I won't be rushing back but did have a nice time.

“lovely break”

just had a lovely week at the aeolos hotel. complex set on a hill so not good for the elderly , the only thing i could find fault with, but you are collected at the roadside with your suitcases and taxied to hotel entrance, so when you get off the coach dont panic!staff were very efficient and the room kept clean. stayed all inclusive, food good, english breakfasts etc. hotel had lots of comfy areas to relax, two pools with bars and a small beach via a tunnel under the coastal road. beach bar offered snacks and freshly made pasta to order. pretty setting. bus stop just outside takes you to corfu town for shopping and a climb up the old venetian fortress is worth it for the views. this is a three star, good value and had a peaceful stay. started to get busier as we left, would definately go back. loved it.
