“A Nice Place to Visit, But...”

Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour

3 of 5 stars
Longmont, Colorado
May 8, 2008

We went to this hotel because of the marina. Since we were sailing for a few days, we wanted to end our vacation by staying at the resort. The resort itself has great ammenities for boaters, shower, bar, restaurant with really good food. The staff was also friendly.

Since this place is pretty pricey, we stayed in a standard room, as did our friends. The beds were terrible. Since none of us are youngsters, this is a big deal. The mattresses are covered with plastic and are as hard as rocks. So, you wake up in the middle of the night sweating. And, the air conditioner is preset not to go below 73 degrees. Thank goodness the open patio door provided some cool air.

“Great relief after being on Lubber's Cay”

Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour

Review is late, but I still wanted to update.

Stay here if you fly in late, or want to fly out the next morning in and out of Marsh Harbor. Husband and I had been on Lubber's Cay for a week in late September, and Abaco Beach Resort was a perfect way to end our wonderful time in Abaco! Just to be treated so nicely and have great food instead of making lunch/dinner for ourselves was great! Standard Room was expansive, loved the patio, and the bathroom was very nice, tile, and shower nice and hot!
I do not know if people are still commenting on the fact that there is alot of "boat" talk, well, yes there is. We have a 19 foot boat at home, but loved all the people we met who had anywhere from 19 foot to 150 foot yachts...Boating really is one big community. Even if you have a row boat at home, you'll fit right in! And if you do not have a boat, do not worry!! Did not see any braggers, just nice people happy to be in Abaco!

“Nice, but noisy”

Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour

Mar 9, 2008

We had never been to the Bahamas before, but wanted to try the out islands to do some snorkeling, rent a power boat, etc. Abaco Beach Resort we eventually settled on after looking at information on several sites. Always harder to book places when you have never been there, but hey, that's part of the fun too.

We booked a 1 Bedroom Suite as we like to have a full kitchen. When we arrived we had been moved to a villa instead for the same price - nice surprise. We had two bedrooms, living room, two bathrooms and full kitchen, as well as two outside decks. Seemed very nice.

A bit of a surprise the first night (a Thursday). The music at the bar (which was right across the little path, so maybe 80 feet away) did not stop til 11PM. We had been up since before 4 AM, so not the quiet we wanted. Friday night it kept going til midnight - and it was loud enough that the walls shook occasionally. There were some nights with no band at the bar. We did ask to move, but the best they could do was move us two villas over. While it would have been a tiny bit less noise, it did not look like it would make a huge difference, and our deck area was fairly sunny, the one they wanted to move us to was fairly dark. So we stayed put and had some loud evenings, others were nice and quiet.

The room itself was great. The housekeeping was excellent. The Wifi was totally inadequate, and ridiculous that they advertise they have Wifi. My wife and I would have to keep moving our chairs nearer to the sliding door in the room hoping to get a 1 out of 5 signal if we were lucky.

The restaurant food was OK, but they added 18% gratuity to our dinner. By itself that might be ok - but this was not mentioned on the menu, and our waiter was slow, forgot our drinks (and had to be asked twice to get them), and downright rude when he wanted us to sign the bill. Take my advice - eat down the road at Curly Tails, or second best is Wally's (though it is only open two nights a week). Food at Curly Tails was great, service was wonderful - we had a bad experience with some incredibly rude guests who we tried to be helpful to and paid the price, but the staff at Curly Tails is great.

We did rent from Sea Horse Rental which is at the resort. Had a good time with the boat and visited several other cays and some snorkeling sites.

“Had a great time, but it is currently a work in progress”

We went there on our honeymoon in November. The staff at the hotel is awesome. Very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and had a nice water view. Don't expect five star luxury, but still nice accomodations. The food and drinks at the hotel were very good. The outside bar was also lively and fun. The resort was undergoing a lot of construction when we were there, which has the place somewhat in disarray. It looks like they still have a ways to go before they complete the improvements, but I expect that once the construction is complete, this place will be more luxurious and a more complete resort atmosphere.

“Incredible experience”

We live in Tampa and every time we go to the Caribbean - 3-4 times a year, we sit in the airport and see planes going to Marsh Harbour. We always wondered were Marsh was and why people were going there so I got on the internet and the choices for lodging were slim - we booked the Abaco Beach Resort and Marina as one of the only choices and after our trip, we were really glad we did - it is the neatest place. Beautiful grounds and beautiful people. If you are looking for rest and relaxation, it is the place. If you are a boater, the marinas are fabulous - our newly acquired boater friends raved about them. The accommodations were fabulous. It's a hidden treasure and I hope few people discover it. As a landlubber, I loved the extra touch of they hibicus flowers scattered throughtout the room. Our room was incrediblly clean, in spite of our trapsing through the sand to the beach, and the hammocks suspended between the palm trees and swaying in the breezes - paradise at it's best.
The swim up bar was aways busy and always there was an icy cold Kalik Gold awaiting us upon our return.. I can still hear the beauriful harmonies of the bands playing at the bar almost every night. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all. It was a great place.
