We had never been to the Bahamas before, but wanted to try the out islands to do some snorkeling, rent a power boat, etc. Abaco Beach Resort we eventually settled on after looking at information on several sites. Always harder to book places when you have never been there, but hey, that's part of the fun too.
We booked a 1 Bedroom Suite as we like to have a full kitchen. When we arrived we had been moved to a villa instead for the same price - nice surprise. We had two bedrooms, living room, two bathrooms and full kitchen, as well as two outside decks. Seemed very nice.
A bit of a surprise the first night (a Thursday). The music at the bar (which was right across the little path, so maybe 80 feet away) did not stop til 11PM. We had been up since before 4 AM, so not the quiet we wanted. Friday night it kept going til midnight - and it was loud enough that the walls shook occasionally. There were some nights with no band at the bar. We did ask to move, but the best they could do was move us two villas over. While it would have been a tiny bit less noise, it did not look like it would make a huge difference, and our deck area was fairly sunny, the one they wanted to move us to was fairly dark. So we stayed put and had some loud evenings, others were nice and quiet.
The room itself was great. The housekeeping was excellent. The Wifi was totally inadequate, and ridiculous that they advertise they have Wifi. My wife and I would have to keep moving our chairs nearer to the sliding door in the room hoping to get a 1 out of 5 signal if we were lucky.
The restaurant food was OK, but they added 18% gratuity to our dinner. By itself that might be ok - but this was not mentioned on the menu, and our waiter was slow, forgot our drinks (and had to be asked twice to get them), and downright rude when he wanted us to sign the bill. Take my advice - eat down the road at Curly Tails, or second best is Wally's (though it is only open two nights a week). Food at Curly Tails was great, service was wonderful - we had a bad experience with some incredibly rude guests who we tried to be helpful to and paid the price, but the staff at Curly Tails is great.
We did rent from Sea Horse Rental which is at the resort. Had a good time with the boat and visited several other cays and some snorkeling sites.
