“Best place ever”

We spent a week there last month and I miss it so much, I want to go back now. To me, the Island Pearl is perfection. Clean, friendly, well-kept and always beautiful. That was my second time visiting Roatan and I will be going back. We went with several friends which made it heavenly. Of course, diving is excellent. And for food, we did not eat one bad or even mediocre meal there. So many options leave you wanting more. Our hosts, Lila and Eric, made our visit memorable. The only downside is the ever-present growth and speculation going on all over Roatan which is spoiling the place. Resorts are creeping in and garbage from the cruise ship's volumes of people make me cringe at how first-world tourists take for-granted the culture and special-ness of the Carribbean islands.

“Very Charming”

Island Pearl

The Island pearl was a wonderful, relaxing place to stay right on West bay beach. Lila and Eric are excellent managers and made our stay a memorable one. The houses are charming and have everything you need to have a great vacation. We had 7 people so we rented the Master house, one beachfront and one garden view house. They were all perfect for what we needed.

The fruit and seafood truck comes right to the property every other day which makes it easy to get fresh food.

Be sure to go to Magiamo's in West Bay for Eric's sushi.

I would without hesitation stay at Island Pearl again!!

“Not agree at all - Nice experience at Island Pearl”

Island Pearl

Myself an my family absolutely do not agree to any of the “dramatic and horrible confessions of a totally ruined vacation” that the person did before. We stayed at Island Pearl at the same time as this person, arrived the same Saturday, yet that’s how far the stories concur. At Island Pearl we were welcomed most nicely by Lila (maybe if you had taken the time to get at least her name correctly…), who had organized a taxi for us to pick us up at the airport. Our cottage was very neat, very nice and clean. Not even one cockroach showed up to welcome us. We were very pleased with our accommodation and as well the equipment of the houses.
And along came Felix. If you would have read any paper at all, you would have known that, in fact, a tropical storm was forming itself. But that was common knowledge at Friday already (at least in 3rd world Guatemala, we knew it. Yes, we are from Guatemala and we do not like at all this category. Who are you to call Guatemala a 3rd world country? Maybe you should start to notice that we are first class citizens). As soon as it became cat. 3, Lila came and let us know what was going on, so we could take precaution considering we were traveling with our little baby girl. It is not true that they tried to keep it a secret or to avoid the guests’ leaving. Everybody knew, how come you allegedly didn’t? Maybe you should try to interact with other human beings… just a hint. Yep, that’s probably it. Maybe treating people correctly instead of disqualifying them before you even get to know them would help as well. Same thing with Lilas husband (Eric, just that you know). The person in charge was Lila, not her husband, not her children, so what’s the matter with having a beer or two while being on vacation? Aren’t we a little bit too strict? And about the smell, nor my husband and me or my parents never sensed anything you described. And I can only repeat: no bad attitude at all. And I never have seen a cockroach nor filth anywhere.
Although the power was suffering black outs, the only thing to do would have been to take the 30 meter trip right to the beach, enjoying the ocean and the stars and relax.
Yes, it’s true that we had to leave as well, the owner himself insisted on it. So we left, bought a flight to La Ceiba because there was no other flight available. We stayed two days there, made the best of it and, at the first possibility, made contact with Lila to go back to the island. She arranged everything (taxi, cleaning ladies, etc.) and we got to continue our holidays. What more can you ask for? Thanks Lila, Eric, all the nice workers and cleaning ladies (who cleaned our cottage every day and even stored plates etc. away) at Island Pearl to let us spend such nice holidays!
So, resuming: yes, I do think you’re somehow a spoiled person and really, people with that attitude should stay home.

“A Relaxing, Low-Key Tropical Escape”

Island Pearl

4 of 5 stars
Boulder, Colorado

If you seeking low-key, very comfortable, relaxing but centrally located lodging on Roatan's most beautiful beach, the Island Pearl is by far your best choice. Four, two-story, two-bedroom "apartments" are simply and tastefully appointed, but not overly fancy or exotic. The central, fully shaded, sandy grounds between the apartments separate the Island Pearl from the bustle of the adjacent beach and provide a sense of quiet and seclusion, even though you are only a few tens of feet from the water. The Pearl's small size provides a sense on quiet intimacy in contrast to all of the adjacent, large, resort hotels. It is easy and inviting to relax here.

The small but adequate kitchen allowed us to dine in and prepare our freshly caught fish. A small market nearby supplies a variety of basic foods so it not necessary to visit the nearby restaurants and bars for every meal.

The beach and amazing azure water are always inviting. And the snorkeling only 100 feet offshore is remarkable.

On Wednesday morning the cruise ships arrive on the Roatan and for about 4-5 hours, the typically moderate activity on the beach becomes crowded and sometimes noisy, but the ship-side visitors depart as quickly as they arrived, and peace returns.

In June, the mosquitoes and biting insects on the beach were common, but not onerous--bug spray should solve the problem.

Overall, the Island Pearl is a perfect diversion from typical, tropical resort hotels. Relaxing, not fancy, but certainly very comfortable, and a place where you can really feel like you are "on vacation!"

“Perfect stay in Roatan at the Pearl”

The Island Pearl has the perfect location on beautiful West Bay. Very peaceful, even when the cruise ships were in dock.

Could not have asked for a better place to stay for our restful vacation.

We dove with Las Rocas on advise from the Pearl and they were great as well.

We will definitely be back!
