There are numerous exhibits in the El Portal Rain Forest Center that provide a good introduction to the forest. The small theater here also shows a short clip of the various flora and fauna you may encounter as you make your way through the forest. Pick up a map from this welcome center before heading out, as it will show you where the main attractions are in the park.

The Yokahú Tower and La Cocal Falls are both located along the main road, about 3mi (4.5km) beyond the welcome center. A little further up the road are the Sierra Palm Picnic Area, which comes with food concessions, the Caimitillo Picnic Area, where hiking trails to Mt. Britton and El Yunque Peak originate, and the Palo Colorado Information Center, which has a picnic area with barbeque grills.

There are 24 miles of hiking paths in El Yunque, and hiking is the only way to get to many of the scenic places here. The La Mina Trail passes by La Mina Falls, which is close to the Palo Colorado Information Center and attached picnic area. Other trails starting from Caimitillo will take you to the Mt. Britton Lookout Tower and El Yunque Peak, which provides an amazing view of the forest and the island as a whole.
