Economuseums (Economusées)
Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland have a unique type of tourist attraction: the Economuseum (Economusée). Economuseums are a unique combination of shopping and tourism. Each Economuseum is an independent business, which uses traditional techniques to make its products. There is an area which provides a museum-quality explanation of the history and methods used in production of its goods. These goods are often made right before the eyes of visitors, and are sold on-site.
There are currently 45 Economuseums, which showcase crafts and skills as wildly diverse as chocolate making and bronze casting, glassblowing and hat making. A complete list of Economuseums, and the areas they specialize in, is on the Economuseum website. Economuseums are fascinating places to visit for anyone who is intrigued by the question, "How do they make that?"
